Looking for comments on a bed floor cover I made for car shows since the floor paint is good but has several dents and dings. Its basically a hard sheet covered with padding and vinyl. What do you think........better with or without?

I've been looking at different solutions for my bed area and really like your idea. From what I can see, I like it. Can we trouble you take some more detailed pictures? I'd love to see it kinda looking down from the top and maybe one with the tailgate down.
By the way, nice job adding pictures to this post....LOL.

That second picture shows it much better. I like it a lot. Nice job. It is a keeper.
Can I copy the idea? Can you fill us in on some details? What thickness wood and foam? Did you stitch that vinyl up yourself? Is it one piece or two? Is there something special underneath to prevent any scratching of the bed? Just wondering? :)

I started with a cardboard template to be sure that it fit the irregularity of the bed. Take your time on this step. Allow a small amount for the padding and vinyl to roll over the edges. I used a piece of 1/8 inch underlayment type of plywood. I used the type of foam that is used in seat padding. I used an inexpensive carpet like material on the backside to prevent scratching the bed. The vinyl is actually three pieces sewn together. The bowtie was sewn into the center piece first, then the two side pieces added. The sewing was done by an upholstery shop.

I have about $100 invested in all of the materials and the sewing labor, not counting my labor. I would guess it would cost $150 - $175 for a complete job at an upholstery shop in my area.
You are all free to use the idea, cause it wasn't my idea either. The upholstery guy suggested it when he was doing my seats. He did a real good job on the stitching which as they say, the details make the job.
Another idea he had was to coordinate the bed stirpes with car stripes if you have any on your ride.
As it turns out, this is a good platform for displaying all of your car show plaques and trophys that you win or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
