: Regions/Clubs forums idea
AHSOM70 09-16-2003, 01:35 PM Hey- Some guys in my club were asking me if it would be possible to get a message board forum somewhere just for our club....
Got me thinking- If you look inside the events forums- you have a bunch of people from various areas asking if anyone from there area is doing anything... Other events are posted with no refrence to where they are...
Would it make sense to divide up the events area into the NECOA regions? Or create a few new forums with one for each of the regions?
That way those regions members could have a place to post not only about local shows, but also maybe start some informal get togethers as members find out who is near them...
Basically a localized version of the events forum combined with bench racing- for each region.
The main bench racing section would remain the normal place for everyone to yak- but it would be nice to have a separate section to yak with the other local area folks- Or alternatly, locate folks in another area to see what is going on if you are going on vacation or something...
what do you think?
Seems reasonable to me. Robert? I'll set them up if da King approves!
camino81 09-16-2003, 02:44 PM Hey i think that would be a great idea.
acauth1 09-16-2003, 03:43 PM Sounds like a plan!
John Harris 09-16-2003, 04:13 PM Great idea, Ben. Now that we have a substantial number of members -- and growing daily -- perhaps we need to start acting as officers in a more formal fashion in dealing with suggestions like yours.
Since we have bylaws and officers of ECC/NECOA, its time to start dealing with these growth issues in a formal way by bringing the question before the officers of the club. I hereby second the motion by Ben in this regard and ask that Robert and Dan put the question out to the other officers for a vote in accordance with our bylaws within a reasonably short time. (Of course, Robert should have at least two or three votes because of his effort in creating this great web site, and the fact that any changes would require some work on his part to implement them!!) What do you other officers think of this???
I would also like to formal move that our organization require all members include their city/state in the location field to enhance our ability to reach out to local members for regional activities. We can still preserve the anonymity and privacy of those members who do not wish to list their real names and email addresses. Those who do not wish to respond to our outreach can simply ignore our attempts to contact them about events, etc.
Would some other officer like to second my motion and bring this question before the board for a vote in addition to Ben's??
Perhaps there are other board members who have additional suggestions that we should consider at this time too. What do you guys out there say?? Anything else we need to address formally? Your comments would be appreciated. John Harris
camino81 09-16-2003, 05:42 PM Sounds like a plan John, I second your motion.
All in favor, say aye....
acauth1 09-16-2003, 07:06 PM 2 or 3 x Aye!
Sorry, I got interupted...I'll get the rest of the regions up now! 8O
Ok, done! Did I miss anyone? 8O
camino81 09-16-2003, 10:07 PM Hey i noticed on the map it shows IN-KY-MI as being a region and MN-WI-IL being another, but on the list of regions it says MI-IL-KY and WI-MN-IL just wondering which is which, the map makes more sense though. and if the map is right then would i fall under region 9 since i'm in IN??? am i making sense? i think i'm starting to confuse myself, can't you tell i'm really bored :P

Sorry, fixed it. I'm adding Director names this morning
camino81 09-17-2003, 08:07 AM should IN be in region 9 and IL in region 10?? Looks like on the list of directors that IN and IL got switched around from whats on map.
Chris
I'm working from the latest document provided by Dan. I'll check with him.
AHSOM70 09-17-2003, 11:01 AM Wow... There is a lot of them- I was expecting 12 or so(thats what i get for not reading my e-mails)
Any way we could consolidate them under a sub folder, like the existing events folder? Does PHP allow subforums inside forums?
That way the root forums list would not be 2+ pages long.. If not thats ok too...
Also- Since you were adding director names- for Region 19, instead of a directors name, could you put "Club- El Camino Classics" ?
Thanks!
Ben
ElkySS 09-23-2003, 09:30 AM Hi folks,
Just returned from judging/participating in the Midwest Chevelle & El Camino show in St. Louis. Seventeen El Caminos (counting the For Sale lot).
The NECOA regions map is correct and my typing on the director's list is wrong. I'll correct it. Indiana is in region-9 and Illinois is in region-10.
I need a single name as point-of-contact for each region. I'm working with an ECC member on possibly staffing N.Calif/N.Nevada, now.
Thanks for everyone's work.

All fixed....
camino81 09-23-2003, 10:48 AM Dan,Peter, and Robert could you then change me from the region 10 director to the region 9 director since i'm in IN. Thanks alot guys. I thought something seemed a little funny about that whole thing.
Chris

Done...
ElkySS 09-24-2003, 07:51 AM Great ideas! I will contact the NECOA officers distribution list today. Requiring a State/Providence/Country at ElCaminoCentral sign-up would require some programming on Robert/Peter's part. I do feel this would help us manage our Regions better.
BTW, IF YOU HAVE ADOBE ACROBAT READER on your compter, the region "numbers" can be obtained from the Director's list located here: http://www.rivercitycorvetteclub.com/images/NECOA_Region_Directors_9-03.pdf
ColdBastrd 09-24-2003, 01:04 PM (edit to first part,I see what you did there my region acauth1 so nevermind)
Also, this is just my 2 cents. You have a ton of regions listed there ElkySS. So if you post is say a sentence long, you post body is still like:
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
this long.
Kinda looks a little funny. Maybe people should just have thier main region listed in thier post? Just a thought. I'm still new here so don't beat me up to bad for the thought 8O
acauth1 09-24-2003, 01:13 PM Oops, I just created usergroups for each region and made Dan moderator of the regions without directors!
ElkySS 09-24-2003, 01:53 PM Thanks, Cold & Robert 8O 8O 8O 8O Is this your way of telling me to fill those empty Director spots????
acauth1 09-24-2003, 02:31 PM Yes, absolutely! Actually, I will fix it in a little while.
