I have a 305 4bbl engine Im wanting to replace the fuel pump with a electric fuel pump would I just plug up the mechanical fuel pump on the engine and just run the gas line to the electric one to the carb?

and another thing the pump is not giving me enough gas I need when I step on it

If you believe your mechanical fuel pump is shot, why not just replace it with another. Why do you want an electric fuel pump?

The stock mechanical pump is cheap and works just fine for a carb. Why would you want the whine and electrical problems of a electric pump when the stock pump will work fine? Try a new stock mechanical pump first. It should deliver all the gas you need.

I replaced the fuel filter inside the carb the one I took out was all black and dirty maybe thats what was clogging it. and when the car wouldn't start I had to use 91 octane to start it up

Also check for an in-line filter. If you find one - replace it. Don't even bother checking it. Just replace it. Mom will be proud! :-D

Take care.

i like to use one of the gold colored sand cast filters for inside the carb inlet that you can get at NAPA

if not then dont run a filter in the carb at all and put in an inline one instead

good luck

And that was a lot cheaper than replacing the mechanical pump with an electric one, I bet. I glad you got it "back to normal". :-D
