: UPDATED: RI All Chevy Car show ECC/NECOA wins! Pictures
mnunn 02-10-2006, 04:36 PM Too early to start posting 2006 car show event info?
June 25th 2006, All Chevy Show, Diamond Hill Park, Cumberland RI (RI Chevy Owner's Assn ...aka RICOA).
UPDATE Sat. May 27th:
Here's the link to the flier.
Cruisin Bruce's Car Show Fliers Page (http://www.cruisinbruce.com/CarShowFlyers.html)
(Today, in addition to all the other car show fliers, the All Chevy show flier is about halfway down the page)
Same classes as last year. One class for all stock, one for all modifieds. Last year we had a great spot under the trees. I think there were 12 Elkies in all. Let's make it 16 this year.
mgs72elky 02-10-2006, 05:29 PM Hey Mike, Works for me. Never too early to start thinking spring.

June 25th 2006, All Chevy Show, Diamond Hill Park, Cumberland RI (RI Chevy Owner's Assn ...aka RICOA).
I'll post a link to a flier as soon as I find it.
Mike
Thanks Mike and Mark. I agree, never to early to start posting car shows. This show is always one of my favorites of the season. I've marked my calender! As soon as you have a flier, please post.
Thanks again!
mnunn 06-16-2006, 04:24 PM Okay, just over a week.
Who's planning to attend?
Will Mark (with that killer, pedigreed, '72, new diff and new wheels and skins)?
Jay and Dian (another opportunity to market "Her Majesty's jeweled 73", canvass the locals and scoop up some new NECC members)?
How about Ernie with the top notch silver 87 (Who lives within a stone's throw of me but whom I've never met).
What about Alan and Wendy with that gorgeous modified, who so graciously gave me their shade and acceptance at last year's inferno, (I mean event) and gave of themselves and their treasure to help the flood victims.
Other's I've inadvertently missed?
I'm working on a guy at work who owns a red 68. Have asked a half dozen times, but he hasn't indicated if he's coming or not.
Let's hear it.
Let's invite others
Let's go!
a73elkyss 06-16-2006, 05:00 PM Good reminder Mike. Thanks.
Yes, Dian and I will be attending if it is not raining. This is a rain or shine show, and for the life of me, I can't really understand a car show in the rain...
We always enjoy everyone's company and yes, we will be "marketing" the Elco.. :-( :-( :(
el Bandido 06-16-2006, 09:27 PM Im IN --
el Bandido doesn't have wipers (I guess that puts us in the Mod Class) - so we don't go in the rain
REALLY hoping to me y'all there
mgs72elky 06-16-2006, 09:37 PM Hey Mike, Glad to hear your going, also Jay and Dian. Ernie, how bout you? It'll be nice if all you region 2 members show up to finally meet everyone, and check out all them cool Elkys. If the ol back ain't in too rough a shape, I'll be there. I'm glad this was brought up as I have some questions. With this damn webtv, I can't make out Bruce's flyer. Do we pre-reg.? If so, is there a number to call? What time to show up? My car is still numbers matching, and stock, but the engines got a bunch of " chrome bolt ons " and the Cragars etc., so what class does that put me in? Modified? I'm looking foward to this show, my first show!!!!! I know I'm a pain in the ass with all the questions, You guys can kick me in the leg when we meet. Oh, speaking of questions, Mike, did you get them M/Ts and Rallys put on? I kept checking that post to see if you put up some pics of them. Well, I'm getting long winded here. If anyone would be kind enough to fill in the blanks for me, and anything else I should know on the RICOA show, I'd appreciate it. Thanks....
87ElCamino 06-17-2006, 04:53 PM How about Ernie with the top notch silver 87
Sorry guys, but I can't make it this year. Unfortunately, I'm on the schedule to work that weekend. I've been trying to get someone to switch weekends with me but I haven't had any luck. I hope everybody has a great time.
a73elkyss 06-18-2006, 03:34 AM Sorry guys, but I can't make it this year. Unfortunately, I'm on the schedule to work that weekend.
:( :( :( Damn work... always get in the way... maybe someone at the last minute will switch with you?
Do we pre-reg.? What time to show up? My car is still numbers matching, and stock, but the engines got a bunch of " chrome bolt ons " and the Cragars etc., so what class does that put me in? Modified? I'm looking foward to this show, my first show!!!!!
Nope, you don't have to pre-register. In past years, Dian and I have just showed up at the gate (I'm one of the early arrival types) and paid to get in. The show is from 9:00 -3:30, and show "registration" is from 9:00 -12:00. So, as long as you show up before 12:00, you're in. We had one member, Dave Bates, who showed up with his sweet '65 (or was it a '66???) at a few minutes past 12:00 one year and they wouldn't let him in
As far as the stock vs. modified class goes, that is a little subjective. When you pull up to the gate, they will ask you. Some really trick customs like Tom's "el Bandido" are right at home in the modified class. Mine is extremely stock, pretty close to way it came from the factory, so I go with the stock class. This show is a "peoples choice" type show, so for the most part, you can't go wrong in either class.
Just hoping for some nice weather... 8)
a73elkyss 06-18-2006, 03:54 AM :onfire:
Remember to put "National El Camino Owners Association" for club affiliation on any registration form!!
:onfire:
Boy is that jumping "emoticon" annoying or what? 8)
mgs72elky 06-18-2006, 06:39 PM Hi Jay, Appreciate the reply, but whoaaaa buddy, at 4:30 in the morning? Don't you sleep? At any rate, I'll plan on being there early so I'll have time to better figure out my class, and of course to wipe her down. Thanks again.
mgs72elky 06-18-2006, 06:45 PM Hey Ernie, Bummer on the work buddy. Like Jay said, perhaps you'll get lucky later in the week. Good luck..
caspiantiger 06-19-2006, 06:26 PM Im not sure if i am going to go to this one. I would love to go but this would be a long haul for me, 2 and a half hours away, 240 miles round trip. Could someone give me an exact address of something close by so i can mapquest it please? i did a mapquest to cumberland RI and it is 2.5 hours, 120 miles away.

MOX-CT 06-20-2006, 05:40 PM I'll try to show up with my toyota, since my Elky is only a pile of parts right now. I am still collecting stuff, picked up a 454 block and heads last week along with a Ford 9" rear. Hope to see you guys (again).

I agree completely. My 1st time ever was last year. Since I knew I wasn't stock, I said "modified" at the gate with no problems or questions. It's your call.
Regarding arrival times, I was there at 8:00 last year, not knowing much about these things which was a little too early. I think I was 3rd or so into the pre-parking lot. I'd suggest 8:30 will still give you time to walk around and think, without being so far back in the "waiting to register line" that you spend forever getting to the final parking spot.
Dress cool and bring sunscreen and lots of water to drink.
mgs72elky 06-21-2006, 08:18 PM Appreciate you filling in a couple more blanks Mike. As I stated before, I'm really looking to this show (my first) and meeting everyone. Don't want to sound pessimistic at all, but right now, they're saying we may have some weather concerns. Like you said Jay, I also don't understand a 'rain or shine ' show. To be honest, I've put an incredible amount of work into the Elky these past two weeks, waxing the motor, 6 coats of Zaino on hood, 3 on body, etc. etc. As I'm sure you guys have too. So I wouldn't take mine out of the garage in even a light mist. With this damn back of mine, I can't do all that work a second time. Well, let's hope it's a clear day. As we draw a little closer, I'll post my intentions. Why don't you folks do the same so we know where we stand on NECOA attendance.
mnunn 06-22-2006, 12:45 PM To be honest, I've put an incredible amount of work into the Elky these past two weeks, waxing the motor, 6 coats of Zaino on hood, 3 on body, etc. etc. As I'm sure you guys have too.
Gulp! 8O
Blew the dust off of her yesterday. Will wash it and apply a coat of wax on Saturday between rain showers.
Wax my engine? 6 coats of what? Sorry Mark. That's way too labor intensive for for this fundamentally lazy person. I vote you best in class before we ever get there.
Tell you what. On Sunday I'll swap Elkys with you so you can shine mine as nice as yours. In exchange I'll pay your entrance fee at the show and buy your lunch as well. Okay?
Hopefully the rain won't keep us all hangar bound. (Mine's a dry weather car. It leaks like a sieve around the door gaskets when it rains)
Later.
Mike
mgs72elky 06-22-2006, 10:23 PM Mike, Your a funny guy. My friend, the entrance fee, a steak dinner, and a $1000.00, wouldn't be enough to make me go through that again. The Elky hadn't been detailed properly by the last owner, so needless to say, it needed every square inch to be redone. " Blow the dust off" what's that? C'mon Mike, I had this image of you, don't ruin it. Well let's hope for the best guys. Good luck with the air hose Mike.
mnunn 06-23-2006, 04:31 PM Hey Mark, I just might take you up on it. 100 hours of your labor ($1000/$10 per hour) "puttin' the spit shine on my ride" just might boost me into the concours de elegance circle like the black one discussed here on ECC recently!!
Seroiusly, I sure hope the weather pulls out early Sunday AM. I've been looking forward to this and a few other events a lot since the season ended last year. Looking forward to seeing last years group again, meeting you, and 2 Elky-in-progress owners (MOX-CT and Tom N) that I've run across via email in the last year. Was also looking forward to meeting semper-fi Ernie, but the rascal has to work.
Haven't confirmed it yet, but it's looking like my wife's bailing out on joining me again this year. Last year, she was off at another car show with her Model A. This year she's up to her neck in wedding prep details for our youngest daughter who gets married soon. Was hoping to introduce her to Wendy and Dian and the primary reason I've got an El Camino and not some other muscle car. Oh well.
Weather report isn't looking too good. I'll post a link to a local weather report when I can find it so we can all stay tuned.
In the mean time (after this weekend's honey-do's) I'll do the wash and wax thing just in case things dry up for Sunday.
Mark, since you have such skill in the area, shall I P.M. you my address so you can come over and do the engine waxing and 6 coat spit shining on Ruby Rat?
mgs72elky 06-23-2006, 06:25 PM 100 @ $10.00 = $1,000.00??????? You are a funny man. 10 @ $100.00 = $1,000.00 and I still don't think I would budge from my recliner, you funny man you!!!!!! Later.
lcamino 06-24-2006, 06:36 AM I wish you guys sun and not as much heat as last year. Was THAT hot or what?
But to be honest, if it rains that means one more day in the shop for me and one day closer to being done. Dropped the BB in the '68 this month but still have a long way to go.
Wax? Washing? Here's how to have fun with a car, click here (http://members.cox.net/lcamino2/images/eng001.jpg)
Enjoy the show,
Rich
mnunn 06-24-2006, 07:16 AM UPDATED (as of 7:25AM Sunday). Here's what RI Channel 10 (www.turnto10.com) says about today's weather:
For Sunday all day
A stationary front will begin to lift to the north on Monday. In the meantime, expect more rain showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be heavy.
TV just said 1-3 more inches expected by this evening. This about seals it for me. I'm staying home, and dry. Hope you do too.
Had a thought: Remember the little creek and bridge we had to cross over to get from the entrance area to the show/parking area? With more rain coming and flash floods possible, it'd be a bummer to be there in the rain all day and then not be able to get home because of a flooded bridge. :-(
Oh well.
a73elkyss 06-24-2006, 01:34 PM Looks like it is going to be a last minute decision for us. Good job on updating the weather forcast Mike. Thanks. Maybe we will all get lucky and there will be a break in the weather. 8)
mnunn 06-24-2006, 05:45 PM How about Ernie with the top notch silver 87
Sorry guys, but I can't make it this year. Unfortunately, I'm on the schedule to work that weekend. I've been trying to get someone to switch weekends with me but I haven't had any luck. I hope everybody has a great time.
Ernie, Now that the weather's deteriorating, I'll bet you'll have all kinds of stand-ins.
mgs72elky 06-24-2006, 07:00 PM Hey Guys, That's it for me. I've been following the weather off and on all day, and it appears to be a wash. Besides all the detail work I did, I've got a leak from the smugglers box into the interior. Well, if any of you do attend, hope it drys up and works out for ya. What's the next decent show with a NECOA presence?
a73elkyss 06-25-2006, 07:52 AM Dian and I tried to go, but we turned around after we hit the Rhode Island border. It was only lightly raining in MA., but the further south we went, the harder the rain was coming down. Driving the Elco with old school bias ply NON radial '60's in the heavy rain is a little challenging.
If the sky's even looked a little like it would get better, we would have kept going. It got darker the further south we went.
I don't really mind getting the Elco wet, but sitting in the rain all day might be pushing it a little to far.
Maybe it will clear later on, but for now, we came home. :( :(
87ElCamino 06-25-2006, 10:09 AM How about Ernie with the top notch silver 87

I don't feel as bad about missing the car show now.
When I left work at 7:30AM today I saw my son standing in the rain next to his Humvee. His MP unit had security/traffic detail at the Quonset Air Show this weekend. Another wash out.
MOX-CT 06-25-2006, 01:12 PM The wife and I went later in the AM. We arrived at 11:30 am and the place was closing down at noon. There were about a dozen or so cars there with two being Elkies!!! I really liked the fully modified 55 chevy with the over the frame headers. I also liked the 53 replica Vette. there was an older car with flames down the side that looked really cool. Also there was a real nice 65 Chevy Malibu, nice and clean. Of course all the others were nice, but those are the ones that stuck in my mind. Maybe on July 16 there will be another show to replace this washout!!!
a73elkyss 06-25-2006, 02:15 PM The wife and I went later in the AM. We arrived at 11:30 am and the place was closing down at noon.
Yep, just read that they did pull plug and will reschedule the show. They only had less than 5% of last years attendance show up.
As soon as anybody knows the new date, please post and we can all try again.
mnunn 06-25-2006, 05:29 PM Jay,
You and Rich get "survivors" & "heroes" badges for even attempting in this kind of weather.
Rich, Who were the 2 Elkys that did go?
They should get badges too (perhaps with a dolfin or a bullfrog on it)
Looking forward.
Mike
MOX-CT 06-25-2006, 06:19 PM I think it was an '87 by Bob Burke (?) and the other one I think was an '84 by a nice Italian name which I can't remember. Very nice Elky's!!! Anyway, we are looking forward to a rain date to see the whole show!!! :D
mgs72elky 06-25-2006, 09:40 PM I also salute those who tried. I'll tell ya, I'm 50 now, lived the majority of my life here in the Fairhaven area, and I have never seen this much rain in this area, my entire life. We're up to 20 inches in 6 weeks. Incredible. If there is a future date on this show, let's hope it isn't raining.
a73elkyss 06-27-2006, 09:51 AM If there is a future date on this show, let's hope it isn't raining.
Looks like Sunday July 16th is going to be the reschedule date for this show. Maybe the rain will be gone by then.... It has rained 15 days in June so far....time to build the ark...
Lets try this one more time.....
87ElCamino 06-27-2006, 11:32 AM Looks like Sunday July 16th is going to be the reschedule date for this show.
I'm not scheduled to work on the 16th so I'll be there!
No rain!... No rain!... No rain!...
mnunn 06-27-2006, 03:09 PM The 16th works out great for me too!!!
mgs72elky 07-11-2006, 02:13 PM Allright Folks, Here it is Tuesday afternoon. And I got to thinking about the RICOA show, and the cleaning I still have to do to the Elky, after a local show I entered this past weekend. I didn't post this show, because I thought it would be a B/S New Bedford kind of thing, but it turned out to be a fairly big event. Maybe, 90 to 130 cars. Only one other Elk besides myself, a non member, I couldn't go into stock because of the chrome, so I ended up in street machines, of all things, beside some really nice stuff. Hey Jay, ol Prem 1 took 2nd overall, I was shocked. I don't know if this is the type of show you guys are interested in. Anyhow, back to this Sunday, I'm hearing clear skys and hot, 90+, are we going to have a strong turnout? I know Mike, Ernie, Jay & Dian, and hopefully Mark ( that's me! ) are attending. Jay, you still cruising Prem 2 ?? And lastly, what's the next show that region 2 has a presence in? Here's to meeting all the region 2 members.....
mnunn 07-11-2006, 03:47 PM ....... couldn't go into stock because of the chrome, so I ended up in street machines, of all things, beside some really nice stuff. Hey Jay, ol Prem 1 took 2nd overall, I was shocked...
Congratulations Mark!!! Great Job!!! That's in the top 1% of all entries. Nice. Pedigree for Prem 1 continues to grow I see.
..........back to this Sunday, I'm hearing clear skys and hot, 90+, are we going to have a strong turnout? ....
Last year was a sweat box. More like a preview of weather in hell. Bring lots of ice, water and portable shade. Maybe the wind will blow a little this time.
I plan on being there. Looking forward to meeting/seeing you all there too. Wife won't be able to come again this year though. The 3 week slip in schedule now conflicts with her Dallas Biz trip (Anyone been to Dallas in late July?).
Congrats again on the great showing Mark.
87ElCamino 07-11-2006, 04:20 PM ...what's the next show that region 2 has a presence in?
There is a great car show in Nashua NH in September that will have several NECOA members at. It's sponsered by the East Coast Camaro Club.
Flyer for ECCC Nashua show (http://mjwrabbit.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/2006ecccfront.pdf)
There's also one sponsered by the Dudley Lions Club in Webster MA that several of us go to. It has a separate El Camino class. I haven't seen a flyer yet for it but that's usually in October.
a73elkyss 07-11-2006, 04:30 PM Hey Jay, ol Prem 1 took 2nd overall, I was shocked. Jay, you still cruising Prem 2 ??
Congrats on your win Mark. 8) You deserve it! Yes, I'm still cruising Premonition II and will be down at the show on Sunday. We are both looking forward to seeing your Elco again. Its been a few years.
Last year was a sweat box. More like a preview of weather in hell. Bring lots of ice, water and portable shade. Maybe the wind will blow a little this time.
I just saw that the long range forcast is for mid 90's and humid.....Sound familiar??? I'll be bringing the canopy for this one. Lets hope that the shows club sponsor keeps the El Camino class in the same location, by those shade trees. Could turn into a "clothing optional" type day... ONLY KIDDING! :P
a73elkyss 07-11-2006, 04:39 PM Has anyone been to Autos of the World (http://www.autosoftheworld.org/)car show? I've never been as I usually go to the Super Chevy Show in NH which is for some reason always on the same weekend. But the Super Chevy Show is $40.00 just for car and driver. Then charge more for a passenger. They are just to expensive now...
I'm leaning towards this show for July. Opinions????
mgs72elky 07-11-2006, 07:41 PM Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies to my car show questions, and also for the congrats on the win. (my first) I appreciate it. Glad to hear you still have the Elk, Jay. ( I think ? ) As for that show on the 30th, right now anyhow, I'm planning on being in Colorado for a visit with my son and family, but am still having a debate with myself on the wisdom of it with this back. I may just end up at that show?????

I wanted to last year, but instead went to Fla for M.I.L's 80th B/D celeb.
I did speak with one of the event attendees (White 70 Ranchero I think). As I recall, he said it was very well attended, packed even. The location (Goddard Park, in East Greenwich RI) is beautiful.
mnunn 07-15-2006, 07:32 AM Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies to my car show questions, and also for the congrats on the win. (my first) I appreciate it. Glad to hear you still have the Elk, Jay. Just leave that show winning car with me, Mark. I'll make sure it gets to the event.
83NHElky 07-15-2006, 02:23 PM We will be there- good thing that this show has shaded areas
mgs72elky 07-15-2006, 08:29 PM Hey Mike, Your OK, I don't care what they say about ya!!!!! Jay, just noticed the different avatar, my eyeballs are letting me down here. Is that a different shot of Prem II, or is it a new Elky???
a73elkyss 07-16-2006, 06:50 PM I wish you guys sun and not as much heat as last year. Was THAT hot or what? Enjoy the show, Rich
Thanks for stopping by Rich. That heat was unreal. Same as last year, maybe a little worse. Good thing the car show sponsors kept the El Camino's (well most of them) in the shade. Even so, I think I owe Dian a steak dinner for putting up with the heat. I'm sure Allen will owe Wendy a nice meal also. :)
Great showing ECC/NECOA members! 8) All ECC/NECOA members took all three places in the modified class. Mike took third, Allen took second, and Mark took first. Plus, Tom took first in the "Custom" class. We were shut out on the stock class, but it was nice when they were announcing the winners that they mentioned "National El Camino Owners Association" many times and also mentioned our banner. Nice job guys.
It was great to see Ernie and Rich again and to get filled in on what's up. Next year Rich, I'm sure you will be there.
It was also great to see Tom's '77 and Mark's '72 in person. While I do have fond memories of Mark's '72 (my old Elky), boy did you mod that Elky very nicely. I could never have done that. Nice job. Dian and I couldn't believe that was the same Elco from years ago. Sweet sweet ride.
And Tom, with all that chrome, you must own stock in a chrome polish company.
Hopefully next year they will change the date of the show to sometime in September when it is not so hot.
I'll post some pictures real soon.
a73elkyss 07-16-2006, 07:40 PM Some pictures from the car show (http://elcaminocentral.com/gallery-album_album399.html). Can you see the 90 plus degree heat and the 68% dew point? Way hot and humid...
PaPa Johns 77 07-16-2006, 08:20 PM 8) Great pictures Jay! Thanks for bearing the high heat and humidity to get them for us!
mgs72elky 07-16-2006, 08:38 PM Hey All, Thought I'd comment on the day. Turned out to be a really nice show and very well organized. And that was a nice setting in that park. Though 20 degrees cooler would have been nice. It was great to finally meet some of the region 2 members, and of course, the Elkys. Tom, with the radical custom, the word shiney doesn't come close Tom. Alan and that beautiful SS. Ernie, I still say, that's the nicest silver paint I've ever seen. Mike and RubyRat, 500 ft.-lbs. of bad Elky. Last but not least Jay & Dian, and the truly beautiful Premonition-II, a really nice Elky. Jay, your compliments on my Elky are appreciated of course, but you had done many sharp things to it prior to my ownership, good job. If I left anyone out, it is by stupidity only. Now that I've met many of you , I can say your a great bunch of guys, (and gals). Thanks to all of you for a great show..... PS- Thanks for posting the show pics Jay. PSS- Mike, thank you again for sharing the shade.
LeoC2 07-16-2006, 09:22 PM Great pictures and congratulations to all the winners! It looks like it was a great show day.
mnunn 07-17-2006, 04:27 PM I too enjoyed the show and meeting all the Elky owners there (Scott and Carol, Mark, Ernie, Tom and Rich) and seeing Alan and Wendy and Jay and Dian again from last year.
Great job by everyone. Congratulations on your wins and all the fine Elky specimens there. Thanks also Jay for posting those pics so fast.
Maybe that oak tree will be a lot bigger next year.
Sooooo glad I didn't buy a Camaro or a Chevelle!!!!!! :D
Mike
MOX-CT 07-17-2006, 06:56 PM Jay, very nice pics thanks for posting them. Sorry I didn't make it, wife and I went to a 2 day party. Sunday AM was a little rough for us. We should have skipped the party and went to the show.
el Bandido 07-18-2006, 08:11 PM I gotta tell you guys --
even though the CHEVY people (of all people you would think THEY would understand) in RI would not respect el Bandido's heritage as an el Camino --
I gotta tell you that that the opportunity to meet and fraternize with all of you was the best part of my day.
All of your vehicles were super! Each one had its own personality and special features - and I could tell that each was well cared for and loved as only a special vehicle can be.
I am really looking forward to see all of you again and really appreciate being part of such a great club.
Tom
