Over the weekend I installed a new set of Hotchkis 1" lowering spings in my 70 elky... Most people install lowering springs to drop their car- I actually installed these to RAISE the car :D
My car had stock springs that had 2 coils cut by the previous owner- It sat super low- i had to run 25" front tires, and the drivers side tire STILL got tore up from rubbing the inner fender... I have shorty headers and it STILL Dragged the pipes on every speed bump...
Here are the results:Before (http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/data/500/489Mvc-008s-med.jpg) --- After (http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/data/500/489dsc00241-med.jpg)
I have a bunch of other new pics showing the new stance in my members album here too if you want to have a look: Ben's Album (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?set_albumName=albun23&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php)
Anyway- I'm very happy with the results. Not nearly as high in the nose as the stock springs would have made it- only about 1 1/2" higher than before. No more dragging the pipes & rubbing the tires. Exactly the muscle car stance i was looking for.
I expect it to drop another 1/2" or so over the next month as the springs settle, but i hope it doesn't drop too much more as I really like the way it sits now.
As for the process of removing & installing the springs? DAMN what a PITA- now i know why the shop i checked out wanted to charge me $200 to install them! But- It was a good learning experience, and now i can say i know how to remove and install springs. :P
