Just got back from week vacation. Was going on a trip to Texas and was going to drive over 3K miles so rented a car.
Picked up a brand new gunmetal gray color 2004 Ford Taurus with less than 3K on it. It had the dohc 24v 201HP motor with leather and even a power sun/moon roof.
Nice to jump into a new car and road test it. Kind of like having one of those dream jobs I see on Motor Trend TV. New cars today really have come along way. The car ran perfect in every way. Even in the heat we were in with the air always on the temp gauge never even inched up.
It was great to be back home! The first thing I noticed when I slid into my seat of my El Camino was the age of my car in how it felt. 1970 to 2004... big changes. Gee, I don't have all the luxuries of that new '04. :-( But then I felt a huge smile on my face as I fired my '70 up. Wow nothing like the sound of a pumped Chevy V8 :P Only after about 30 min of being on the road in my '70 El Camino I had 3 thumbs up and a nice story at the gas station from someone about "I had one of those!"
I had just been driving for a week in a new '04. One thing I found out for sure is they all look the same. My rental car blended in with all the others. It was like driving a car that had the Star Trek cloaking device option on it. Nice ride but they do all blend in together.
I was so happy to drive my El Camino again...I really missed it! It's what I drive, what I love! It fits me.
We are what we drive! 8)
