Let me start by saying I am putting a 305 from an 84 into and 81.
Can/if I find a distributor and carb from an 81 305 and install them will the present wiring hook up right? The previous enging was a V6.
If not, what do I have to do to get this to work?

Are you planning on still using the computer? If you dump the computer it'll be much easier. If your emissions inspection requires you to keep it stock you're in for a fun time. :)

I have not had to deal with a v6 car but I don't think you could use the same wiring. If you can get away with it dump the computer.

Not sure on having to keep the computor. I'll have to ask my mechanic. Thanks.

Ok, let's say I lose the computer. I install a non ecm carb and dist. Install the engine. How do I hook it up and make it run?

With a non-computer q-jet and a non-computer HEI distributor, all you need to do is connect 12V to the BAT connection of the distributor and turn the key. It's much simpler than you think.

You should still be able to use the factory engine harness (not the computer harness) to power the dist, starter. Just dump the comp. and remove the old wires from it.

I think Tommy was referring to the fact I took a V6 out of the car. Thanks for all the advice.

Yea, thats what I was talking about. Just the computer harness would not work. You will be happier with a V-8, even a 305. (Which is a V8 by the way). :)
