Well, Friday after work I was headed to my favorite watering hole when all-in-sudden my el camino (79) would not shut off. I tried the typical things one would do without tools (jiggled the handle, cursed a few times, etc). So, I drove home and turned it off with a pair of channel locks.

Now, I can turn it off and on but it's very stiff and I mean VERY stiff. Has anyone encountered this? What's the fix and is it more than a weekend wrench turner should try and tackle?

Oh yea, if I take it into the dealership/mechanic what should I expect to pay?

Thanks in advance,
M.

Lost the keys to my Elky couple of years ago, called a very reputable locksmith that came to my house, he put a new ignition switch in and charged me $140 was done in about an hour...had a friend who recently had his ignition switch go bad in a 2003 Chevy van, the dealership charged him over $300 to replace the switch, took two days before he got it back...plus he would to have had to pay for towing charges if he didn't have AAA.
