Im looking at getting duals with glasspacks(10" or 12"). ive got some friends that say that would sound excellent with my 305. what im debating is another friend of mine says i should get straights with tips. but i know some people that say that would be too loud. what do you guys think?

Last time I used glasspacks was in the 70's! Kind of like platform shoes. Do they still used those? I guess they serve a purpose when in need of space?

With glass pack, the placement of the muffler changes the sound and how loud it'll be, size of the pipe as well. What type of "sound" are you ultimately after, throaty, mellow, or popping rapping? The straight pipe with tips would be very hard to get past the local law enforcement officer

Well first off either way i would most definetely take off my muffler. as for what sound im going for if it is what i think it is then mellow. definetely not popping/rapping(as from a cherrybomb). Our local law enforcement doesnt really try to hard. so im not really worried about that.

If you want mellow, you should go with a turbo muffler instead of a cherry bomb/glasspack type. A turbe muffler and 2.5" pipe has a very good, mellow tone. To get that type of tone with a "pack" you'd need to mount than as close to the engine as possible, 3" pipe, and use a full exhuast to the rear of the car.

If you don't want to go with the top end Flowmasters, I'd install Turbo style mufflers.

I really enjoy the sound of my new 2 1/2" Dynomax Ultraflows I had put on the "project" car. Real nice tone at idle, but sounds like open headers at WOT.

I like the sound of dynamax super turbos, low & deep & not to loud.

what i was gonna get was dual glasspacks at 3" pipe. take off my muffler completely and just have pipe and glasspacks. i would get it done at Exhaust pros here in DL and just use their brand(not sure which) of glasspacks and piping.

I'm putting Dynomaz Super Turbos on my ECSS when the headers go on...nice and mellow tones and not like the "everyone else's" mufflers you hear on every truck in town here.

the previous owner of my '68 put a dual system from Flowmaster designed for chevelles on the car and it is very throaty and deep at idle but if your standing behind the thing at WOT youre plugging your ears! i know couse i tested it on my cousin. (whos the same age as me just so you know i wasnt causing some little kid hearing damage.) He thought the single chamber flows on his Jeep XJ Sport I-6 were loud! (?) oooh. try (key word here is TRY as in see for yourself at the muffler shop) dual single chambers! and put some money away for a rainy day because that is as agressive and bad @#$% as they come next to cutouts!
But nothing beats a mild system with remote or wing-nut weld-in cutouts. you can drive around with good throaty tone thats easy on the ears every day (evry day?) during the week, and when you spend a weekend crusing around town ith your buddies or at the track, you unplug those suckers and good lord! they also attract attention at local car shows. plus, unlike loud systems or straight pipes, the law doesnt know about them untill you decide its time for them to know.

dont do it (whatever it is) just cause your friends tell you it 'would' sound cool. go to a shop and have them test different mufflers for you to hear. and im not really what youd call a friend, so when i tell you to get cutouts, you do it you hear me. no matter what system you decide on, plugable cutouts would still be awesome! but thats a personal opinion. what you are after may be different. (your hint to mellow sound preference)

i had glass packs on my 305 and it sounded sweet. i also have thrush glasspacks on my 357 that is in there now and like it. although i would only do that if you want people to hear you coming from a mile away.i have them because it has the classic race car sound of hte 60's and 70's.
