For the transmission, I'd guess maybe a 1970's FWD transmission from a Toronado or Eldorado. That would line the wheels up about right and would also probably be the easiest conversion (though still a pain)

As to why? Dunno. Maybe they really liked all those mid-engine Elkies Hot Wheels keeps putting out. Needs more chrome and a bugcatcher if they were going for that look though...

Why???

Drag racing. Move all that weight to the rear to improve traction. Fuel cell's probably up front under the hood now.

Back around 1970 I went to an event at a drag strip that had a field of sixteen wheelstanders. One of which was an El Camino. Finally found it on the web.

While looking I found this Cameo wheelstander. As rare as the Cameo is, it's hard to believe someone would cut one up.

I just started a similar thread about this lol. Its cool but you wouldnt be able to drive in the rain. Its definitly just for show

You could drive in the rain-with high quality plug wires & proper use of dielectric grease.
