I just bought today an orange 70 SS396 from a fellow here in Florida. The previous owner: Richard L Soehner from Chico, CA apparently did most of the work on this car.
I just want to find out what is in the motor, transmission and anything else that was done to it?
Thanks. I love the car.

I am trying to find the numbers on the engine. Just exactly what makes a matching #'s car? Which #'s have to match? :?: and where exactly do I find them?

I don't know how to decode the numbers, I seem to have lost my decoder ring

casting number: Located on the bellhousing flange at the rear of the block, drivers side.

Block date code: Located on the bellhousing flange at the rear of the block, passenger side.

engine ID code / V.I.N.: Located on the extension of the deck surface at the front of the block, passenger side.

Codes for the heads are under the valve covers. (far left and far right nubmers)

ahh my year one catalog is good for something 8-)

Hope it helps

Thanks so much for the info. Here's what I found for the engine ID code/Vin:
IOT3IN 6L117095
The 1's may be I's or L's or???
Can you shed any light on these? Thank you.
Georges
