I believe in karma. The law of karma, says: "For every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first..."

Yesterday, in preparation for this mornings 5:00 AM departure to NJ, I put everything I needed for the Englishtown swap meet in my El Camino. Last night at about eight PM I decided to take it out to the gas station and fill up the gas tank in order to save a little time this morning. It started right up and I gave it about a minute to warm up. When I put my foot on the brake pedal, to put it into reverse, the pedal went to the floor and the brake light came on. I shut off the engine, got out, and looked underneath the Elky with a flashlight to find a drip just above the rear axle.

I should be walking around the Englishtown swap meet right now. But instead, because I've got some bad Elky karma this weekend, I'm getting ready to go into the garage and replace a rear brake line.

Hey Ernie, you believe in Elky Karma. I believe in Elky Fate.

Maybe it was better that you didn't go. Maybe if you went and parked down in N.J. that maybe something negative would have happened to your Elky while you were at the swap meet.

Hell Ernie, I'm just trying to put a postive spin on the broken brake line.....

Thanks guys. I appreciate the cheering up.

I just came inside from fixing the Elky. The leak was at a 90* bend in the 1/4" brake line just above the fitting going into the rear brake hose. It's a real PITA to get at. I ended up replacing the rear brake hose, both brake lines running from the hose to the rear wheel cylinders, and about 18" of 1/4" brake line ahead of the rear hose. I was soooo careful loosening the rear bleeders. I was afraid one would break off and I'd end up replacing a wheel cylinder too (BTDT). I went through a quart of DOT3 brake fluid bleeding the system.

Good karma: It's all ready for next weekends show in Webster, MA.

Hey, I was at Englishtown today, and it sucks that you missed it, but there's always the spring show to look forward to, not to mention the show in MA next weekend. Sometimes it's just not meant to be. Trust me, we saw a Mustang on the way out, and I bet that owner wishes his 'Stang fate kept him in the garage today...ouch

It's ashame you didn't make it. I too have been having one brake line problem after another recently. Guess the lines have reached the end of their life expectency (84'). Time to break down and buy a stainless steel kit and fix it right I guess.
