Sorry, new Chevy meat here. I'm sure this topic is stupidly obvious to you guys, but I've been into Mopars for the last 30 years and just picked up my 1st classic Chevy, a '70 SS396 elCo.
So I went to the parts store to get some Duplicolor "Chevy Orange", and I noticed right next to it was "Chevy Orange-Red", which is very close but of course has a deeper reddish tone to the orange. Which one is correct?

Also, what should original spark plug wires look like? I'm not into the NOS thing, but if I can find an aftermarket set of wires that offers better performance and "pretty much" looks like the stock wires, that's the way I'd like to go.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Here's my engine compartment. It's a mess, but it's an original mess.

I'd like to see more pics of your car and hear more about it too! You may not be into the NOS thing as you say, but you may be sitting on a potential gold mine. If that car is restorable and you can afford to do a complete restoration, you should do it, if it's an all original SS 396. Start with ordering the catalogs from OPGI, Year One, NPD, and any others that carry NOS pieces or reproductions. Start a pictorial history of the restoration. How much did you pay for it? Nice find.

Thanks. The engine photo is a bit deceiving... it's dusty here (30 miles from Palm Springs), and the flash photo really makes it look bad. The car is pretty nice, no rust ever, one re-paint in black again. It has never been modified, still wears its original Rochester carb, points ignition, and cast iron exhaust manifolds.
It has 60k original miles on it, and the original interior is perfect, even the carpet. I just bought it last week, I'll post some pics soon.

8) For all intents and purposes that looks like a very original engine compartment! That BBC looks like it was born there! By the way, Nice looking Elky! :)

Nice car. I can relate to that fine dust, I use to live in Palm Springs from 1976 to 1980 and hated to have to clean the dash and everything else. Where exactly are you? 8)
