I went to my work and picked up my check and I came out and there was a beat up ranchero parked next to my elky sitting in the middle of nowhere away from the other cars. Was he trying to prove something?

It was wishful thinking on the Ranchero's part.

Maybe he knew your elky would get some attention and he wanted a little too.

More likely the Raunchero moved, (all on its' own mind you) next to your Elky, hoping some of the Elkys' beauty would rub off on it. Alas the poor Raunchero will remain ugly no matter how hard it tries, poor lil Raunchero! I know these things because I'm a professional Psycarlogist.

Let me think...no, I can't think of any design on the back of the Raunchero. You sure it wasn't a piece of paper that someone stuck on the tailgate that said "Kick Me Hard"? Anyone got a roll of scotch tape, I ran out! 8) Oh yeah check your spelling, it's spelled "gradumatate" I used spellcheck! Damn college kids think they know everything!

He was just jealous is all. Besides everyone knows that the only thing a Ranchero is good for is a trash dumpster.

I know its all in fun...
The Ranchero's from the early 60's that were based on the tiny falcon frame, and the ones from the mid 70's to early 80's based on the HUGE LTD platform really were beyond ugly(then again so were the cars they shared the front end with)... However..........

the 56-57 ranchero's were beautiful cars- and the 66-70 were also attractive cars and could have been bought with the High HP Cobra-Jet motors in them- I believe up to the 428ci plants... They could be A very QUICK little sleeper.

Not necissarily my favorite car- but I do have quite a bit of respect for Ranchero's, at least from those years. and I do like to check them out at shows when i see them, just to see the little differences.

For every crappy car you can find a picture of- There is also a picture of a nice restored custom one...

1959 Ranchero w/ 460 BB:

1968 Ranchero:

I could find pics of nasty looking 4th gen elkys rotting in junk yards too... They just need some TLC and better rims and they look killer.

As i said, i know this thread is all in good fun and humor- but it SERIOUSLY bugs me when any gear head give another car guy the cold shoulder just because his car it isn't as nice and fixed up as your's is, or its a brand rivalry. Yeah, its a ranchero- Yeah, it may be rough around the edges- But they are not driving a honda with a gigantic wing and a 6" fart pipe- So give em a break and enjoy the fact that another American muscle car is still doing its job.

Would you park your Elcamino next to a nicely restored/customized ranchero sitting by itself in a parking lot? Why not?

I wouldn't have minded so much if he if it was a he had taken care of the car I mean mcDonalds wrappers on the floorboard? trash everywhere including the bed... He had no respect for it either it appeared....

It's not the point that it was a Ranchero parted next to you...it's the point that someone went out of their way to park next to you since you were parted so far away from anything else. Thats one of those things that erks me. I go out of my way to park where I won't get door dings period.

I hate when I come out and a car parked right next to me and there is not another car in 20 spots from us. If the other car is parked in front of mine thats ok and one thing, but if it's right on the side of mine thats another.

Oh, and I like the '70 & '71 Ranchero's GT's. The 428 Corbra Jet 4-speeds were cool cars. I had a '71.

I wish I knew more about them so I coudl tell you what year it was. It have a BIG backend seemed like double the height of my elky. looked almost like a regular pickup bed stuck on a car front. Just looked very odd... Anybody have a guess to what year? the front was rather flat. Any clues?
