Hey guys! Just got my Elky this weekend! Posted some pics on the new members section. I picked up the Elky in St. Louis, and drove her back to Denver. Not a fun trip. She ran great the whole way, but sucked gas like no other. It's got a 305 in it. I was filling up about every 140 miles. Insane. When I'd pull off the interstate to fill up, she idled pretty rough, kinda felt like it was about to die. Pushing on the gas hesitated a bit, then engaged. I got her all the way home. The next morning, she fired over after a bit of hesitation, then died. She wouldn't fire back up. Putting the pedal to the floor would turn her over, but then die out.
I've been reading a bit on here about the carbs, since I'm new to this. I'd also heard that maybe it needs to be adjusted because I'm much higher in altitude than when the new carb was put on for St. Louis driving. I adjusted the choke a bit, and did some slight twisting to the idle screw. She seems to fire over ok now, but will barely idle and dies a lot. I was considering taking it to a local shop here to get looked at, but if I can do this myself, I'd rather save the towing and the shop charge.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If anyone's in the Denver area, feel to contact me.
Thanks much!
Dustin
