Ok, I was looking at a diagram from Chiltons and it showed a green wire from the 80 model switch. Compared it to the 80 factory manual this morning and it shows no green wire...I think I will trust the factory manual here.

Give this a try:

Wire the white wire from the switch to keyed ignition 12 volts.
Connect the purple wire from the switch to the purple wire to the motor
Connect the green wire from the switch to the gray wire to the motor.
Connect the pink wire from the switch to the pink to the motor.

You may find the diagrams here:

Chiltons 80

Factory 85

Don't have the 80 factory diagram copied as of yet.

The wiring you requested me to didnt work the motor sound like it is going back and forth quickly

I have another question for you :?: If i was to change the complete harness of my 80 elky standard to the 86 elky automatic harness what wires would i use on the clutch paddle to start the engine I dont want the car to start without the paddle being used. this might be the best way just up date the wiring!

From what I can see those motors aren't a direct swap between those years. The green wire runs an internal pulse module in the 81 but not in the later years. The switches and wiring look different. Some swaps are painful.

If you don't have a clutch start switch connector tucked up the somewhere, the next best thing would be to get at the neutral start switch connector and use those wires. Should be a black/white & orange/black in a connector on the neutral start switch.

Well what do you think if i change the motor will it work? If not I was thinking of going to the wreaking yard cut out the motor wiring and try it that way before changing over to the complete harness :?

If the motor won't work wired as I suggested, your only other alternative is to change the motor, and wiring harness. The motors are not interchangable as wired. The earlier models have 12 volts keyed to the motor, and the switch supplies the ground signals to change speeds. The later supplies voltage to change speeds.
