I will be shopping for another El Camino by the end of this summer. Anyways, with todays gas prices, and the fact I'm getting older, I've been thinking a 4.3 V6 might work for me. I had a 85 Monte Carlo CL with a fuel injected (TBI) 4.3 and everybody swore up and down it was a V8. So my question is, what years of El Camino would have came with a fuel injected 4.3 V6, and what price range are most of them going for ???

The EFI 4.3L V6 was first available in a 5th gen in 85. It was offered in 86 and 87 as well. They would probably cost less than a V8 5th gen as the V6 was not as desirable. I'd guess you could pick one up for around $2000-3000.
Great !!!!! My targeted budget for one at the end of the summer is fifty five hundred.
Any production numbers ?? How comman was the TBI 4.3 V6 in the 85's, 86's, and 87's ??

Look at this page for 5th gen V6 production information (http://www.geocities.com/malibunirvana/technical/eng_hp_tq/index.html)
Thanks, that was very helpfull. Looks like the 87 4.3 V6 had 5 less horse then the 5.0 V8.

Would there be that much of a difference in mileage between a 4.3 TBI and a 5.0 to be that much of a concern? I would think that a 305 with a TH200-R4 and a numerically low rear gear would be fairly good on gas.
Couldn't tell you the difference in milage. I had a 85 Monte with a TBI 4.3 that was pretty good on gas, and felt like more torque the gutless 305's I'd driven.

Not the answer just cruise every other weekend that way you get twice the MPG this called the new math. Stay with power and style to have the fun you want.
The only thing I am doing is pulling the trans and going to a 700r4 and maybe change the 3.73 gears to 3.31 and go every other week night and weekend. I figure I am ahead as I sold my boats just before the gas crazy days and that is truly bad MPG. So 9MPG every other week will have to work ( lets see that 18MPG from a BB not).
