Okay, I'm not dumb but I have no idea what to make of this. I have the interior of my 79 stripped and just finnished taking out the headliner today. Well, I found one build sheet under the driver's side top door panel and now I've found another different one between the headliner and the inside roof of the truck. Can someone tell me which would be the correct sheet and how to tell? I can supply the cowl tag numbers if need be but I'm not sure what to make of this. One sheet has codes for an SS, Z15, and the other sounds like a plain Jane model. Help gang.
Build sheets were trash once the componet got installed. A vehicle couild have mand BS that varied with the option content. Its common to find ones from other cars that may have landed there inadvertantly. The workers job was to install parts, not pickup about sheets of paper. There were trash cans at the work stations to dispose of these as the part was installed. Often due to the pace of the line, workers would let them attached or tear them off and toss them where ever they landed. The car was depapered at the end of the line as the vehicles were inspected prior to turning over to the shipper. Also, when it comes to componets like doors, seats and the like, they could have been replaced in the past from another car, accidents etc.
Look for the VIN to determine what one is for your car.
It would be great if you had some images to share. Without that info to look at its hard to know what you have. Different parts of the lines had different sheets, there was chassis broadcast sheet, body broadcast, cushion room and so on.
btw-Broadcast sheet is the correct term for build sheet. Contrary to popular belief bs were never intended to be part of the document package that shipped with the car. What you find are ones that were hidden from view or they would have been tossed at the end of the line or in the dealer cleanup shop.
