My intermittent dead battery and intermittent hot horn relay were related and the problem found. I got lucky and happened to see a dim alt dash light on with the keys out of the car. I started the car and turned it off and no light.
Apparently when I turn the key off and lock the wheel to remove the key the light comes on...sometimes. If I turn the ignition forward (it moves about an 1/8 of an inch) the light goes off and the slight buzz at the alternator and the hot relay goes away.
My car stopped running yesterday on a main road. Drove it a mile after it was sitting all day and it flat out died. No lights or power of any kind and no sound when tring to start. I touched the battery cables at the battery, they were tight, I touched the horn relay wires, tried again and the car started up. I read that a poor ground would probably be the cause. The starter has not been engaging on the first attempt to start the car on the second try it starts. I guess I'm now trying to figure if this has anything to do with it dieing yesterday. I also was reading about fuseable links. At my horn relay their is a black wire that turns into a red wire after a larger shaped "barrel of rubber?". This wire is soft at the horn relay connection, feels like no wire in there...is this a fuseable link? Fartin' around with this new problem is when I spotted the alt light on as stated above.
Thanks to every one who read an who replieded to my previous posts. Any help on this one would also be greatly appreciated.
