I just found an electronic box in my passanger side kickpanel. It's about 6x9x1 inches metal and sheathed with plastic that matches my interior. Two large connectors on the top.

Now I have a normally aspirated and stock 82 Conquista so what's this box?

Will I need it when I drop a 383 stroker (normally aspirated also)

that is the computer that controls the electronics in the carb and the ignition advance---did you notice there is no vacuum advance on the distributor----If you are in an area where smog is not to closely controlled I would do away with it by 1, getting a carb that does not have electronic controls or adding a fuel injection setup and 2, pick up an old HEI distributor that has a vacuum advance---this computer is rudimentary at best and can be a pain to get functing correctly with twenty something year old wiring harnesses and sensors

Don't overlook the fact that by replacing the ecarb, your lock-up torque converter, if so equipped, will no longer lock-up. If you remove the computer, the Oxygen Sensor will no longer operate. But you may not need these if you do not have to pass emissions testing. Just think about what you are doing before taking action because your fuel mileage may suffer.

Got the computer in my '81 Caballero. Previous owner swapped in a 350 with HEI and none of the sensors. and since the speedo doesn't work, it seems that the only thing that the computer is doing is confusing the lock-up torque converter. With the computer disconnected, the car seems to run smoother (converter not locking and un-locking seemingly at will while driving at low speed).
