: Region 7 Director -- AL, GA, TN
19ElCamino72 06-04-2006, 01:09 PM Maybe it's just me but Region 7 seems a little on the comatose side. I noticed the last post was in April.
I say that to say this. I inquired about the Region 7 director position. More curiousity than anything else. I have been in contact with John Harris and he forwarded what is required. It's a list of about 20 some odd things. The problem was, it looks like something that requires somebody who's retired and has a fair amount of time on his hands. I'd love to do it but don't think I could devote the time necessary. Plus the fact that i'm relatively new here.
Now my question is, is there anybody else in R7 who might be interested? I would love to know who's out there, what they've got, who they know who can help the hobby...you know, that sort of thing. For example, I need to borrow a MIG welder for a few days. If I knew somebody close who had that and would loan it to me i'd be in good shape. Then when they needed me to come over and help pull their tranny i'd be "sorry, I have to go to a....uh, a wedding. Yeah, that's it!":P Just kidding. But you get the idea. I've talked to a few out there (in fact one lives less than 5 miles from me but we've never met) and i'd love to get to know more of y'all.
Hey, there's a bonus. Y'all could look at my poor decrepid '72 and have some laughs.
So, anybody interested? I don't think I can but I would be more than happy to help out whoever did.
//Glenn
Mama Mayhem 06-04-2006, 03:54 PM I'm in no position to be a director or any thing like that (I'm on the road alot), but some type of get togethers would be cool. When we're home my hubby and I go up to Steele on Friday nights for Moonlight Madness (went this last friday, but the track didn't dry in time to do any running). It would be cool to have some other Elkies show up and help me stave off all the Mustangs that seem to come there.
I'll accept the help pulling my tranny later this summer, when I rebuild it, but you won't be able to borrow our welder untill we buy one!
PS. you're decrepit 72 against my more decrepit 71 would be fun, loser buys the burger at the concession stand :) .
Don't sell yourselves short. ANYONE that has a desire to get our members off the computer and on the road together, has what it takes to be a director. If you are in a Region that is not active, then anything you can do to get things moving is a step in the right direction.
Elky-holic 06-05-2006, 05:02 PM I'd also be more than willing to help a new director. I'm about to print up the tri-fold flyers and some NECOA cards and put them on 4 elkies I see on my way to work each morning. At least it may interest a new member or introduce myself to an established member. Anything I can do, y'all keep me posted!!
On a side note, Glenn...the baby is a cutie! Has her daddy's dimple in the chin and her momma's nose. :)
Caveman49 06-06-2006, 06:12 PM I'm retired from the Army, but still work for them, and stay gone a lot, no excuses, just too 8O ooo burnt when I do get to the homesite

A 72 El Camino 07-02-2006, 12:07 AM wow, we do have a sleepy sleepy region. I'm only 17, my family and I moved to Georgia 2-3 years ago. I have a 72 el camino and love it. I don't think its road worthy enough to go over around alabama but that would be neat if we all did something. Does anyone attend the super chevy show in Georgia? isnt that comming up pretty soon? I am also new to this site but I loveeeeeeee El Caminos.
Matt

Lee,
I am so sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I wasn't ignoring you, I just wasn't paying attention. I am in Alabaster, about 20 miles south of Birmingham. Fact is, I was going to suggest to John Harris you would be a good choice. Apparently, now that i'm more familiar with your schedule, I guess that (the director position) wouldn't work.
And A 72 El Camino...welcome to our sleepy little corner of the world. Kinda like Radiator Springs if ya get my meaning :P
the Barking Spider 08-01-2006, 12:25 AM I'm still here... I used to post quite a bit but haven't since I kinda sorta wrecked my El Camino. I am supposed to be looking at a front clip in the morning and maybe I'll be getting him back in a drivable order. It runs well, it has a GM 350 with around 1,000 miles on it... new, not rebuilt.
I am from Blount County, Alabama. I too see a few El Caminos on a regular occasion on my trek to work. I never can stop because I'm usually 10 minutes late O_o
John Harris 12-05-2010, 09:37 AM Region 7 of NECOA covers the states of Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. The position of Regional Director is presently vacant. However, there are 365 registered members living in this region, of whom 23 are active posters on ECC with over 50 posts each.
Because of the great distance from Memphis, TN in one corner to Valdosta, GA in another, it may not be practical for members to drive from one end of the region to attend an event at the other end. For that reason, it may be practical for NECOA to have one Deputy Regional Director in each of the three states and eventually for someone to become Regional Director when membership and activity levels warrant it.
Some of the top posters in this area are: OneBadElky, 78Rockfly, aharbin1992, Al Camino, badmoon47, camino55, CANTED, Caveman49, dovehunter, ElCaminoGuy2, Elcaminonyc, ElkieBob, georgiamadman, JJ73, m5d1k, Maclyn, Mama Mayhem, mondo05, OriginalCrash, pops86, spoonplugger, Ted Dubree, and thundercat2. Perhaps these individuals or others can help us get this vacancy filled in the upcoming weeks.
If members living in this region are interested in helping NECOA grow by planning local events and gatherings -- or would like to recommend someone for this -- please contact any of the officers of NECOA by PM. (John Harris, LeoC2, or Kenrogers1) You can also discuss this topic either by a posting in the Region 7 Forum or gathering in the ECC Chat Room.
John Harris 12-23-2010, 10:28 AM Bump. Anyone ready to step up to the plate, or nominate a good candidate?
John Harris 01-08-2011, 11:35 AM Bump. Still looking for a few good members to step and assist.
camino55 01-08-2011, 01:00 PM I feel a little insulted. I post here alot. Mostly questions right now, but a few other things too. I responded about the director position. So if you are saying that us southerners are not posting, please check info first.
thanks, Another Glenn here
Ted Dubree 01-08-2011, 07:29 PM Camino 55 you are about #6 on the regular posters list. Please don't feel insulted . Ted Dubree
John Harris 01-10-2011, 08:52 PM Since we originally posted this message a few weeks ago, we've only gotten two replies from this area which has a lot of Elky owners, we're gonna try it again!

oldcane 01-24-2011, 10:25 AM Well, I'm new here and haven't seen what the requirements are but I'd be open to discussion. I guess I should say my wife might be interested too since it's her EC we just got.
John Harris 01-24-2011, 08:04 PM Anyone interested in volunteering to be a Deputy Director in their region should send me a Private Message, giving some info about themselves and why they would be a good candidate for the job. We're still looking for a few good men...or women across the country.
oldcane 01-25-2011, 07:17 AM I guess that's why no takers. How would I know if I was good candidate if i don't know what the job is? Thanks, I guess. I thought this might be good for my wife as she's wanting to organize some events here this summer so thought this might be a good club to back her. Oh, well.
John Harris 02-01-2011, 11:07 AM Bump.
oldcane 02-02-2011, 09:00 AM Wow. I don't understand why you can't just post the requirements. That might help. Might not. I guess you know best. I really enjoyed this forum but if I just get ignored then not much point of being here. You can delete my account any time. Thanks.
Lenny Carey 02-03-2011, 08:58 AM Oldcane , Sorry you have not gotten the info you want but please stick around . Sometimes as we rush around , some things fall through the cracks . Everyone here is an unpaid volunteer and NECOA is in a busy time of reorganizing . In the meantime , the info on the Directors duties are posted in the NECOA News and Announcements Dept. as well as on the top of the page in Region 6 , Florida . The list at first looks daunting but is doable . These are guidelines and suggestions to assist the Director and no one can do everything , so hopefully it will not deter you . Thanks for your interest and please give us a chance .

Jvarble 01-17-2012, 11:31 AM Who would they be?
Thanks
rtatwk 01-17-2012, 01:19 PM Guys contact the current DD's Pongo and Canted...They have been working hard with little outcome. Not from lack of effort though. I'm sure that either of them would be open to some more help and especially open to some more participation! And all of you can look ahead and plan to be a part of the first SE multi-regional meet in October. Cruisin the Coast. The Gulf Coast Mississippi. Regions 14, 13, and 6 are already in the prep mode. You are all in the middle of this bunch and welcome to be a part of it!
