Vintage Vehicles Can Now Display Original Model Year Tags

Act 2006-612 allows owners of antique or historical vehicles to register their vehicles using an original Alabama license plate issued in the vintage vehicle’s model year, beginning Oct. 2, 2006. Original Alabama license plates through 1976 qualify.

I actually found this out by accident but it turns out a guy I work with was instrumental in getting this passed. He owns a 49 Buick so we talk old car stuff anyway. What's cool about this for me anyway, is I had an old 1972 tag on the front of my El Camino and now, come October, I can make that my vehicle's official tag. Pretty cool!

I saw that in Indiana you can get "new antique" plates for your car or truck. You can special order plates from the year of manufacture of your vehicle.

The problem is, Indiana plates are ugly.

My favorite plate is still the Michigan 1976 plate. Too bad I don't live in Michigan any more and my truck is not from '76.

Indiana plates are printed on flat plates, not three dimensional anymore so you can just paint your own.
