79Suzy 10-08-2003, 08:43 PM Hello, im sorta new at this and i accidently posted a topic somewhere else but ill learn this sooner or later. I have a 1979 el camino and i need a seat. Please if u have any tips on me finding a seat please contact me or post a reply. thanks
Poltergeist 10-08-2003, 09:50 PM Full bench, 60/40. buckets?? Which are you looking for? Do you just want new covers for your existing? Cloth or leather? Give us some more info I'm sure someone can dig up some info for you.
79Suzy 10-09-2003, 06:14 AM Well im thinking just a bench but if the 60/40s will fit in easily without much trouble them heck, id prolly go with those. Is it much difficulty to add 60/40 if she came with a bench when bought?
http://elcaminocentral.com/users/87ss/hallo.gif Matt, welcome to the group. And girls don't really suck if you know what to do with them :P
I have a 60/40 set in the garage from my 87 if you want to drive to Atlanta!
I would suggest searching your local salvage yards. Any similar year G body set-up will work (Monte's, Malibu's etc)
79Suzy 10-09-2003, 09:07 AM well actually im looking for some NOS seats but depending on the shape ur 60/40s are then I might be interested in your 60/40s. If anybody knows where i can get some NOS seats or good condition old bench seats please tell me, and also please tell me the troubles im going to have in installing the 60/40s.
glennz15 10-09-2003, 12:59 PM I've got a gray bench seat with armrest in good condition, came out of my 87. You didn't mention where you where located? I'm in the SF bay area, California.

79Suzy 10-09-2003, 04:23 PM thanks man but i think im going to stick with some buckets..
79Suzy 10-09-2003, 07:36 PM as of now i have decided i would like to go bucket.. maybe even put a console but i dont no. does anybody know where i can get bucket seats and for how much? Also wat are 60/40?
thanks man but i think im going to stick with some buckets.. Well, if your willing to do a little work! Look for a set of late model Camaro or Firebird seats. I retro-fitted a pair of 87 T/A seats in mine...
79Suzy 10-09-2003, 08:02 PM you did aye? Unfortunatly i have some of the worst luck ever so all this information im getting from yall talking about having left over or wat you have done is making me sick lol. if you only knew wat the seats in my camino looked like.... u might help a little more and understand where im coming from.... prolly worst ull ever see
Howard 10-09-2003, 08:06 PM 60/40= Passenger side seat is 60% width drivers side is 40% width of the car both sides have fold down armrest and are usually quite comfortable for those long highway drives.
If you have the opportunity to remove them from the doner car make sure to take the inside mounts (Closest to the transmission tunnel) they are held on with a number of spot welds. The outside mounts(near the rockers) are the same for bench or 60/40
I'm not familiar with the seat mounts for the buckets.
Poltergeist 10-09-2003, 08:10 PM A set of bucket seats will cost anywhere from $100 on up. Just depends on what they come from. A set of Recaro can set you back around $1500.00 depending on style and options. You haven't said what's in there now but if its a bench you will need brackets mounted on the floor board to mount the seats to the floor against the tranny tunnel.
My Elky orginally had a bench seat. I got set of '98 Trans Am seats to add to it. I had to get a set of brackets from an 86 Monte Carlo to add them. I also got the center console to do it. You can get an idea from this shot of my interior. Interior is not done yet (http://www.poltergeist.us/_uimages/ElkyPics/Interior/Interior_Begining.jpg)
79Suzy 10-09-2003, 08:11 PM Hey Howard thanks for the tip it will help me. I still need some seats tho lol.... i could use advise on interior also....What do u think interior should be in a 79 camino yellow with 2 black stripes? black? (not any other color i can think of that would look good with yellow)
79Suzy 10-09-2003, 08:14 PM Also thank you Poltergeist I am sorta broke at the momemt and i was hoping i could get some seats from some1 who owns an old car they dont run or anything. 100 dollars is probaly all i can afford at the moment...I have buckets and there massivly ugly lol
Howard 10-10-2003, 06:19 AM Dark saddle brown like they used in the 83 era cars may not be bad with yellow.....individual choice.
Since my cars next stop was the bone yard when I picked it up the interior was trashed. I had a mint, like new interior I removed out of my dads 83 Grand Lemans wagon. I found matching door panels off an 83 Grand Prix and the rear interior pieces I will respray. The dash board is the same as the 83 Grand Prix with the gauge package.
I am going to move all the power windows, air, cruise tilt wheel etc over to the camino......I have a ways to go before its complete :D
79Suzy 10-10-2003, 06:28 AM Im really not a big brown color fan...but thanks anyway.. ur camino will look good i think when u switch the dash....I think ill be heading over to a salvage yard soon to c if i can find some buckets for my camino but still if u have any idea on new or used good seats from other el caminos please help
theelcaminofactory 10-10-2003, 07:06 AM Check Ebay for buckets seats that have been reupholstered...there's usually a set there and you can email the guy that does them to get a set the color you need if your willing to pay the price plus shipping. I believe it's Mikes Montes. Looks like he does a real nice job from the pics I've seen. One thing you should know though, if you have a bench seat, and you decide to go with a 60/40 split bench or buckets, you will need to get the inner seat brackets that are spot welded to the floor pan or make brackets and have them spot welded in.
79Suzy 10-10-2003, 07:32 PM Hey thanks guys all your help is appreciated.. I will get buckets and i have been searching ebay but i dont no wat buckets would look good in my elky. I will have no problem getting brackets and having them welded, thats a breeze, its finding and buying im working on....
Tommy 10-10-2003, 08:10 PM There are alot of good donor cars out there. I have factory buckets & am looking for a better set myself. I know where I can get a set from a 95 Z24 for 50.00 so I am thinking about getting them.
79Suzy 10-11-2003, 09:45 PM hey wat bucket seats should i steal out of?trans am? camaro? wat?
Poltergeist 10-11-2003, 09:52 PM The Pontiac seats from the Firebirds, Trans Am, and WS6 are more comfortable then the Camaro seats. More padding and better side bolsters. FWIW
Tommy 10-12-2003, 06:18 AM I would love a set of buckets from a newer grand am.
79Suzy 10-12-2003, 08:16 AM What do you think about the APC Bucket seats...I like the all black ones but i dont no if they would look good in my 79 elky....do u think they would look cool or too modern?
John Harris 10-12-2003, 10:16 AM Forget about getting new seats! What you need is a better nickname...one that doesn't offend our many females members and the rest of us who think that, while Elky's are great, they run a distant second place to the ladies. Besides, what's the point of having nice comfortable seats if none of the ladies would want to ride with someone with this kind of attitude?? Just strap in your booster chair and ride around by yourself! That should be sufficient.
On second thought, maybe you might not really be old enough to drive. If so, stay away from the third topic on our main menu, labelled "Daily." It just might confuse you or get you upset.
79Suzy 10-12-2003, 12:50 PM If i knew how t ochange it i would.. I thought "girlsSuck" would jsut be the login name and i would make a nother name for my nickname...i was wrong... so how do i change it? and how bout the seats?
ElkyPete 10-13-2003, 06:28 AM 79Suzy
I've gotten two sets of Buckets from "Honest Charley's Custom Components" (Formally Choo Choo Customs). These seats will fit the Elkys fine but you will have to fabracate some mounting brackets. THe seats are "New" and built to demand/design to fit the interior of your truck. THey are made by a company here in Texas called Qualtex, just off of So. I35 in Johnson County I think.

I've seen people use Buckets out of a lot of the general motors "G" bodies likr the Monty Carlo, Grand National etc...
GOod Luck.
79Suzy 10-13-2003, 04:36 PM Thank you again... But has anybody seen the APC racing bucket seats? if so, wat do u think?
Tommy 10-14-2003, 10:48 AM Post a pic or site where we can see them.

camino81 10-14-2003, 12:42 PM I'd like to hear from someone who has these seats, i was thinking about getting them too.
79Suzy 10-17-2003, 04:03 PM I dont care if someone has them and gives me a bad report..all i care is about if they look good....
Tommy 10-18-2003, 03:12 PM They do look good but a little to much for my taste.
83choochoo 10-18-2003, 03:31 PM There nice seats but. i think they look better in little ricer cars and might look a little out of place in a classic looking elky.
'84El5 10-19-2003, 11:12 AM I was considering some carabue seats myself..
if not a set of originals...because the ones in mine are from a 97 Buick and they suck!
79Suzy 10-19-2003, 06:08 PM What do carabue seats look like?
'84El5 10-19-2003, 06:35 PM My bad..I meant Corbeau
http://www.corbeau.com/index.shtml
they make a lot of different kinds
Tommy 10-20-2003, 04:12 AM I like the black one at the end of the title page.
79Suzy 10-20-2003, 10:25 AM I first saw those but the reason i dont like them is the price...the apc seats are much cheeper....
Here's what you need to be searching for in your local salvage yards: 1996 Pontiac Trans Am seats (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33701&item=2437588585)
Tommy 10-20-2003, 11:29 AM I decided to keep looking.
79Suzy 10-22-2003, 12:17 PM dont get me wrong i do like the seats there but i do happen to like the apc seats better
elcamino_gal 10-22-2003, 04:02 PM I have a set of bucket seats from a 79 elky but i don't think that you will enjoy the red color :-D
79Suzy 10-23-2003, 05:48 PM no thanks...i think im going to get the apc seats
