A few months ago, I bought an 85 El Camino SS. In almost perfect condition, but one problem. It has a rear end or draft shaft problem. It 'clunks' really bad when the AT downshifts in to 1st gear.

You can understand my concern about wanting to take this to a reputable mechanic; preferably someone who loves older vehicles. Anyone know of a true car buff in the Louisville, Southern Indiana area?

Sounds like it might be a bad U-joint in the driveshaft. I would look at that as a possibility too.
