 WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

I feel this is a message that should be posted again with it's own heading. This was a response to the garage sale post about the Original Parts Group flyer just sent out.

Here was my response about the bed mats in question....

I ordered their bed mat for my '70 earlier this year. It was described in the big catalog as a thick diamond patterned rubber mat. What I got was not what was described! I got a thin mat and the sidepieces that go around the wheel well were heat glued in place! The shiny glue marking were clearly visible. That was not the worst part. When I unrolled it the bad "SMELL" of this rubber was over powering! I don’t know what type of rubber this stuff is?

I called up customer service to describe what I received and what they showed in the catalog. They told me they got a huge order of these mats and they were getting nothing but complaints on them. They were not what they ordered and these came from who knows what third world country. They also told me they did not have the thicker diamond rubber mats shown in the catalog any longer. They told me I just had to pay for the shipping and the mat was free! I hope these are not the same mats.

I have the same mailed flyer. Its on page 18. It looks like they blurred out the picture of this mat. Now look closely on page 24 at the lower page ad for the tailgate upper top chrome molding....look at the picture of the rubber mat in the bed. It's the diamond mat I first ordered and never got. If your getting the same mat I did it is only worth the shipping cost at best!

I also ordered from them a soft-top bed cover once. It was described in the catalog as having all the braces for it. When I got it…no braces to hold it up. Just the vinyl cover. When I called customer service on this they told me, they discontinued all the braces that go with it. Why did you sell me something that parts of it was discontinued for the same price, and really is worth nothing and can not work with out the braces? They had no answer for me. I sent the cover back.

So after a couple of months the smell is finally going away. I hope these mats are not the same ones that they have a huge inventory of that they are pushing again.

I don't understand things like this. Original Parts Group is a big outfit. Do they think people are stupid? Don't they know that there are forums like this that talk about products and good customer service? My last 2 orders were just plain disappointing.

 I HOPE ORIGINAL PARTS GROUP READS THIS!

70ELCO,
I don't understand it either. OPG is a big operation who recently moved into a new and larger headquarters. But, of all the vendors we (Elky owners) buy aftermarket and repro parts from, OPG seems to get the most negative posts about wrong parts and indifference toward customer satisfaction.
While, on the other hand, The El Camino Store and Honest Charley's seem, in my opinion, to get good customer reviews.

I ordered the same item about four years ago and got the same explaination. I'm suprised they're still claiming it comes with braces.

70ELCO,
I don't understand it either. OPG is a big operation who recently moved into a new and larger headquarters. Ummm...who owns OPG? Classic Industries does! How many of you have heard the backorder horror stories about these guys?

Well, I guess I might as well jump in here... I never had a problem with OPG's products. I've purchased a pretty good variety of stuff from them too. :lookround:

For sure I'm not saying don't use them. They have a really cool catalog that I love looking at. I have ordered some other stuff with no problems, but really they were all just small items. Just saying be careful and look closely at your orders. But for sure those bed mats suck in quality.

I'm pro OPGI...from all the horror stories I'm hearing my bet is that some Classic Industries Corporate (SOB) Exec is running the show there, and he's probably not a true car enthusiast! If your not happy with your purchase because it wasn't what you thought it was, return it and let them know of your customer dissatisfaction.

Well Dave (70ELCO) is correct on the mat. What he described is the mat they are still selling. I went ahead and got it just because I do need something to protect the bed after it's painted. And for the rather cheap price it will work for now. In the long run I will replace it.

I would only recommend this mat for someone that is local and can pick it up and not pay for the shipping. With that added on it's not worth it. It's border line on if it's worth it for what I paid.

It would seem that OPG is good for the small stuff but some of the bigger things "buyer beware" comes to mind.

Most of the things i have bought from OPG were small things and no problems.
But i also ordered a header panel and it was perfect great fit and no problems. It is a bummer to order something have it shipped and then it sucks when it arrives.
Sending things back is usually no problem but you are always out that damn shipping cost.
I will be careful in the future maybe check Homest Charley and ECS when i need the big stuff.. I know sometimes we are all blinded by a GREAT PRICE..

One good thing about the mat is that it will make a great template. It's the perfect size and can be placed over a large piece of better quality rubber you might find.

I saw in the truck section in Summit, truck bed mats with a chevy logo bowtie imbossed in the center of it. That would be cool if they had our bed size.
