Folks....

I need some help removing the Instrument Cluster Case in my 1976 EC Classic. Can someone give me some advice? I *almost* have it out. Here is my set up:

First off, I have the 1976 Fisher Body manual, the big fat 1974 Chevrolet Service Manual, and the 1976 supplement. I did not find anything helpful in the Fisher Body Manual, nor the 1976 supplement. But using the 1974 service manual, and looking on page 12-34, I started reading about how to remove the interment bezel, and the instrument cluster case.

I have the bezel removed. I have the speedometer removed and the idiot light assembly on the left hand side of the cluster case removed. I have a blank where the clock is suppose to be.

Looking on page 12-36 I find directions called:

Instrument Cluster Replacement (Figs 50, 51)

1) It says to remove the bezel (done)
2) Remove Speedometer (done)
3) Remove clock (I have no clock, just a blank)
4) Disconnect transmission shift indicator cable (done)

5) Disconnect wiring & speedometer cable.

Not done! How do I do this? The manual does not say.

I was able to reach into the cluster case and grab the speedometer cable with a needle nose. And I can pull on it. It came out several feet. I was afraid to pull it out all the way. Am I suppose to do that?

And what about the wiring? Is this some big connector under the dash? I am not sure what to disconnect. Everything??

The cluster case is loose and I can move it. It wants to come out, but something is holding it in place. I just don't know what.

Can someone toss me a bone? I have been working on this for two days. I am at a stand still and don't know what to do next.

Any tips, books to buy, read, web links, etc. Anything. Anything at all.

Thanks EC fans.
