I installed a 86 Camaro tpi 305 into my 1980 ElCamino with a Painless Performance wire harness. Can anyone recomend a combination park neutral - backup light switch that works with my '80 steering column shifter? Right now I am using the Camaro switch which has no pinouts for reverse lights. The switch that PP recomends is a 86 Monty w/EFI but that won't install on my column. Thanks in advance. how 'bout links to a good GM EFI site.

Why not use your original switch?

Here's some EFI Info (http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/)

the EFI system needs a park neutral ground switch to the ECM. That switch replaces the reverse light sw. on the column of the el camino.

The OEM back-up lamp switch is mounted on the lower part of the steering column, the neutral safty switch is mechanical, built in to the shift mechanism to prevent starting in positions other than park/neutral.

Is this thread talking about the wire that should be grounded when ingine is in park and neutral to engage closed loop tuning for the ECM? I am also wondering how to cope with this wires input. I know some just ground the wire permanently but "this CAN cause problems" engine cutting out when letting off throttle suddenly etc. I have installed an LT1 in my Elky and I am wondering how others have worked around this.

Thanks
