I have an 87 el camino - 10K miles, V6 in hibernation for 6 - 7 yrs. never been started, just sitting under cover in a secure warm garage.
I am getting ready to go get it road ready - what would you all recommend to do.....first to get it started then ready to drive.
Appreciate the advise.
Does it still have the number's matching air in the tires? That there is some valuable stuff.
Check all the belts & hoses, replace all the fluids (I'd do the brake fluid too), drain & clean the gas tank...amazing how quickly gas goes bad. Replace the battery and inspect all your wiring under the hood (rats & mice are pesky little critters)...
I'm sure the others will offer additional suggestions & recommendations as well...good luck!

I would go through it very carefully and make sure no rodents have stashed anything in the strange places. I have heard of mice crawling up the exhaust pipes of cars into the motor but I think the kat would have stopped them in this one. I would definatley check all the fluids before you start and probabley change all of them pretty quickley (they are likley to have collected condensation). Removing the old gas is also important because that stuff is definatley bad. You also may want to put a fuel filter in line between the tank and the fuel pump to keep any residual junk that is in the tank from getting into your fuel pump and tearing it up. Also be prepared for the carburator to be clogged and not working, hopefully this isn't the case but I would guess it is the most likley opposition to starting. Good Luck
