From everything I've read, the Black Knight was not available in 79. My wife and her mother swear the car had a black knight symbol when her grandfather bought the car, but it has since been painted. I got it from him to restore. During the process I found the BS. Sure enough it has the Z16 code on it. Prior to finding the BS, I asked several times if they were sure it wasn't royal blue. Now I'm not so sure. Can someone shed light on this for me please?

In 78 Z16 was a Black Knight. It was only offered in a black exterior with black interior, thus the name "Black Knight". From 79 and up Z16 was a Royal Knight which could come in a variety of different interior and exterior colors. They all had the same hood decal.

Thanks for the clarification on that. It does bring up another question though. I found royal blue decal sets for the royal knight and black decals for the black knight. Which is correct? If the royal blue sticker is the correct on for this elky.....I wonder why it came stock with a black one? just something to ponder.

87ElCamino, is the car pictured in your reply a "Royal Knight"? Is it an 1987? Curious because I'm writing a story and would like to use the info to fill in the blanks for the discription of the car in your picture. Details are what make a story more interesting and I would greatly appreciate your help.

The black knight decals were gold not black and the interior also came in beige I have the build sheet for my 78. 78 was the only year for the Black Knight.

ive got a 1978 el camino black knight with a camel interior. where can i get a build sheet and would it tell me what number off the line it was built?

The last digits of your serial number is the production number, but unfortunitly their are no numbers telling us how many Black Knights were made.
