Alright, after reading hundreds of posts about shocks, airbags, and springs, i'm still mystified as to what to buy. With so many combinations to pick from for different situations I just can't find what is right for me. Here is what i'm looking for: a smooth ride, no racing, no hauling, no towing, daily driver that just wants to look good. The closest post I have found is cabamino's with Monroe 5840 Sensa-trac fronts and Monroe 58411 rears. Looking at Monroes parts picker, under smooth ride it does not offer a shock for the rear. I also wondered about the KYB gas adjusts. Help me decide please!!!
Thanks guys,
Danny

Look for rear shocks for the same year Chevelle or Malibu, I'm thinking of getting Be-Cool's new adjustables (which you probably don't want @ $189 ea.) and they don't list a rear for an El Camino because they thought that all Elky's came with air shocks from the factory. After talking to them on the phone and finding this out we decided that the same year Chevelle rear shocks were what I wanted, which I already suspected.
Go with the Monroe's, you should be happy with them, that's all I run on my semi, and believe me on that puppy I want the best ride I can find on some damn rough roads coast to coast.
You might want to add the Air/Lift bags latter for the occasional hauling capability, not expensive, easy to install, and they work, also a good reputation.

The biggest decision is budget. I drive my Elky every day. I don't normally haul anything but I do on occasions. If you replace the rear shocks with a conventional shock you will not be able to haul much weight at all.
I replaced all four of my shocks with Bilstien shocks. I then added the air bags to the rear. I ran separate lines so I can adjust the load side to side. From what I heard the airbags and cheap shocks can cause a real pogo stick like ride. I run just 10 PSI in the bags on normal conditions. The ride is much improved over the stock shocks. On one stretch of Interstate 44 near my house the road undulates up and down over some short bridges. Before I change to the Bilstiens my Elky was almost scary at 70 MPH on that stretch of road. Now I hardly notice it.

I bought Bilstiens HD shocks for $60 each.
