: Chevelle/El Camino car show 28-30 Sept at Sturbridge Mass
mnunn 07-18-2006, 05:34 PM It's a 1,000 point "judged" show made just for our beauties and our sister Chevelles
I just discovered the flier at:
Chev-El Show Flier (http://www.chev-el.com/Regional_Flyer.pdf)
Does this interest any of you?
mgs72elky 07-18-2006, 06:06 PM Yes, This one is also of interest, but only if I can find a driver for the Elk. That way I can bring a couple pillows and lay in the back for the ride. Seriously, I'd love to attend a show like this, but it's a bit too much of a hike for me.
MOX-CT 07-18-2006, 06:53 PM I like this one and the Autos of the world Sunday date. I'll try to be there. BTW, how can Sturbridge Ma be too far for anyone in New England??? It's right on I-84!!!
MOX-CT 07-18-2006, 06:55 PM MGS72ELKY,
Since my Elky is a basket case, I'll volunteer to drive yours!!! How fast do you think that thing can go??? We'll make the trip in record time and you won't nap with white knuckles!!! :P
mgs72elky 07-18-2006, 07:00 PM Hey Mox-ct, I think your question of "how can this be too far for anyone" refers to me. Well it can be, you see I've got 29 pieces of steel in my spine, including 3 rods, and another 5 pieces in my neck. So anything much more than 30 to 40 minutes is a bit too much, buddy.
el Bandido 07-18-2006, 08:43 PM Hey Mike --- this one looks like a good excuse for a road trip... and if I promise my wife dinner out and a mixer she might agree to go back to the hotel room with me!
I put it in my calendar and barring surprises I am planning to be there.
I have no idea what class they will want to put me in - but if I pay the registration fee they are sure to let me in ---- anyway.
Thanks for the Tip
Tom
LeoC2 07-18-2006, 10:11 PM I saw that flyer also. That show really interests me, I enjoy 1000 point judging if it's done right.
Anyone else from Region 1 want to show these Region 2 whipersnappers a thing or two? :P
el Bandido 07-19-2006, 05:12 AM BRING IT ON -- Leo
(and we can probably have a lively discussion about the American League pennant while we're at it)

Sounds like an "appointment with destiny".
I'm with you Tom, "Bring it on", Leo. :) :) :) :)
mgs72elky 07-20-2006, 06:25 PM Leo, Leo, Leo, Some things in life are better left alone. After the showing region 2 put on this past weekend, all I can say is be careful what you wish for. These region 2 Elkys are the epitome of visual excellence, and (may I remind you) that many of us, myself included, use your towels to help achive such a high level of brilliance. Be careful Leo, we'll fill your Elky up with K-mart towels and take pictures...Heh, Heh, Heh.
mnunn 09-15-2006, 04:50 PM Okay. Time to start the head counting.
I'm going, but as an observer, not a participant. I may bring a couple of other elky owners with me.
I heart Tom and Heidi are going.
I think Ernie said he planned to go, but I can't be sure.
Jay said he wouldn't be going (Family committments).
Leo's got a "gentleman's challenge" to uphold [or else face the harassment of the entire Region 2 group for years to come] so I'm sure he'll be there.
If Mark Starts on Monday he may be there by Saturday. ;-)
Who else?
mgs72elky 09-15-2006, 09:41 PM That's only because I'd have to get a motel room after each 30 minutes of driving. Have a great time guys....

Yes I am still intending on coming! I'm working on getting there Fri. In the meantime, you guys may be interested to see a typical 1000 point judging sheet http://fullsizechevynatls.tripod.com/id6.html Could be helpful in getting cars ready.
el Bandido 09-17-2006, 08:35 PM Hey Leo,
Glad to hear you are planning to come up to New England - weather permitting, I am looking forward to meeting you.
I will suffer through that discussion of the AL Pennant while wiping the crow from my lips.
thanx for that the link to the judging sheet - very interesting.
see ya in a couple of weeks

Leo, Very nice rap sheet. It will be helpful indeed for many shows to come.
Let's see, Tom gets 900 points for chrome and creativity, Mark'll get 850 for an engine compartment that you can see yourself clearly enough to pick your teeth in. By this list, I might even get a couple hundred points with an unfinished bed. (Alan, Ernie and the other Gen 5ers are so far up the scale the judges will be scratching their heads looking for defects and finding none)
Nice Job Leo, Thx
el Bandido 09-27-2006, 07:52 PM Damn It -- I was sooooo looking forward to meeting Leo...
Although I am keeping it open - the weather looks like a cancellation for el Bandido ! !
Heidi knows how much I have been loking forward to seeing all those Chevelles and el Caminos - she's talking about getting up at 5 on Sat to see if the roads are dry enough to make the trip (she likes to sleep - but she knows how much I have been counting on this weekend)
We'll see?

LeoC2 09-27-2006, 10:29 PM Damn It -- I was sooooo looking forward to meeting Leo...
From what I can see it's expected to rain tomorrow through Fri., if that's the case, I won't be making it either!
mnunn 09-28-2006, 06:35 PM Looks like the forecast for Saturday at least should be drier than Friday.
Overcast and cool, but as far as I can tell no rain on Sat.
lcamino and I both plan to be there Saturday, but as spec-"taters"
Looking forward to meeting all you are there on Saturday.
Mike
a73elkyss 10-01-2006, 06:57 AM Any reviews of this car show? I was not able to attend, but was wondering how it went.

el Bandido 10-01-2006, 09:00 AM Jay and all other NECOA freinds,
First of all this had the"makins" of a Great Show - I for one love Chevelles almost as much as I love el Caminos -
And I would strongly suggest that we all Region One and Two fully support this show next year.
The facilities were great --- the hotel was very nice (right on a lake - we had a suite for $105), there were 3 restaurants within walking distance (and a Buger King and McDonalds too), Old Sturbridge Village is literally right across the street, the show lot (hotel parking lot) was large, paved, and clean, and the club members did sit in the lot (overnight two nights)to provide security ! !
The guys from the club were fabulous - friendly and helpful and really went all out to put on a great show.
Unfortunately it was not very well attended there were 30-40 Chevelles and 4-5 elCaminos (a few more owned by club members parked on the sidelines - not in the judging area) I don't know if it was the uncertain weather or what - but what a shame.
Mike Nunn and Rich Henderson came up without their elkys from RI and Roger drove up from the Cape with his "Attack Rat" and me and Heidi and el Bandido made the trip.
The Classes for judging were mixed Chevelles & elCaminos divided by years in a strange (not by generation) way... and their were "people's Choice Awards Best Paint - Best Engine - Best Interior divided by Elky and Chevelle...
Roger was in a Year Class with a few other Chevelles and he took FIRST over some very nice Chevelles - Roger also got Best Engine/elCamino - and an award for travelling the furthest....
I got a First in my class ---- but I was the only vehicle in the 73-79 class (of course we all know I am in a class of my own anyway - I also got Best Paint/elCamino (what a surprise) and Best Interior/elCamino.
Heidi and I had planned to stay a second night and party with the club they had a dinner planed - also) but seeing the weather forecast we decided it was best to head home after the show....
All in all it was a very nice day - and I would really encourage everyone to try to attend next year - this is a great bunch of guys going way out of there way to put on a great show.
Wish the summer were longer and wish we had more opps to see one another --- other than a few cruizes on some unusually nice days - it looks like we (like the Red Sox) are gonna be "calling it a season"
BEST REGARDS TO ALL OF YOU
Tom
el Bandido
LeoC2 10-01-2006, 01:33 PM Sounds like a great show! It's just too bad the weather was what it was on Friday or I surely would have come. Congrats to all the winnwrs.
Any pictures?
mgs72elky 10-01-2006, 05:36 PM Hey Tom, Congrats on your 3 wins. Thanks for the show info. Wish I could have made it. I hear ya on calling it a season. My season was over a month ago. I guess we could all sell out and move south, huh? Tom, it was great meeting you also, and shooting the **** at a couple shows. Mike & Mary, Jay & Dian, Ernie, and briefly Alan. It was great meeting you all, and like Tom, I look foward to next season. Right now, we're hoping to schedule another surgery for January. I decided to go for it. Gonna take it all apart and start over. So with any luck, perhaps I'll be in better shape, and be able to travel to more distant shows. If not, then they'll be an Elky for sale. Have a good winter guys......Later.
