Hey guys in microwave land!

Just wanted to say thanks for dragging all those 4th gens out and putting some life back in them. 10 years ago when I drove my elky around people were like, " what's that? a Ranchero?"

Now I see at least 2 4th gens a day and many of them are in the middle of restoration while others are daily drivers in great shape. For example, there's a guy out here in Mesa who drives to the Boeing chopper plant every day in a two tone Tan/cream that I think is a 77. It's in great shape and you can tell it's special to him.

The more people that take an interest in the 4th gens the more parts we'll be able to get for them like Dashes! Seems popularity drives the aftermarket just like everything else in this country except for elections.. :P

Sadly enough I've only seen two 4th gens on the road (not including mine lol) I think there still needs to be more:)

Hey James,

There is a new Friday night cruise in Mesa. It is at Guadalupe and Alma School in the SW corner at a burger joint named "Scouts". Probably will be about 30 cars there this Friday......31 if you cruise in! It starts at about 6:30 and runs to 9:00. Me and about 8 others are leaving before 9:00 and cruisin' to a bowling alley for Night bowling (under black lights) and brews. Come on out and meet us all!

I'm talkin' to you too Sara.....it ain't that far. Whats a hundred miles when you got an Elky to drive

Still waiting to see your gallery Sara, If the pic you took of Eric on your hood is from your phone / cam the resolution is good enough.

James, do you have a gallery posted? Post a link if so.

I kinda know what you guys are talking about when you say you don't see many Elkys......I thought that also but, like every other car, when you buy one and think you have a real treasure that no one else has they start showing up all over the place !

It wouldn't let me set up a gallery the other day when I tried so I posted something in the questions forum or whatever and we'll see if anyone's replied yet. I was also told to PM someone if I need help, so we'll see what I can get done today (my first day off in 343 years.) I'd love to drive my Mino down to Phoenix but I need to fix the oil shooting problem first (as described in the other thread lol) or else by the time I get down the block, there won't be any oil in my engine, and it will all be all over me, and the interior.

Part of why I like mine is because they are more "rare" than others. Sorry 5th genners, but there are just too dang many of you!

I get a kick out of every goober that comes up to me at a cruise-in to tell me he or his buddy "had one of those, but it didn't look this nice."

Even Earl's looks better than most!

Couldn't make the cruise. I run a computer store up in Scottsdale with a friend of mine so that takes up most of my time. Friday's are devoted to catching up on chores at home and then I have to go work on consulting jobs on Friday night. I've been driving my El up to work for the past month though since I had my daily driver repainted.

Seems like it's either no money but lots of time or no time but some money. But at least I get lots of interest now that I drive the EL more. I also get alot of folks who talk about how they had one way back when. Seems to bring a smile to their face.

So I'm doing my part to keep the flame alive!

I do have a gallery but I haven't figured out how to post the link in the forums but I'm in the 4th Gen section on page 4 under the title "El Camino74guy's" El Take all my money-o

Looks really good James !

BTW, you can link your gallery by just copying and pasting the URL:

http://elcaminocentral.com/gallery-album_ert-page1.html

(that is yours)

The paint work looked excelllent. Sorry you can't make the cruise in, we had 53 cars last night and had a real good time. Perhaps one Friday you can slip away and get down there. One thing though, I gave the wrong cross streets, it is at Guadalupe an DOBSON.

Maybe we will all get to meet you one day.

Sara,

If you need help posting the previous message from PaPa John was :

Just PM Poltergiest and he will help you set up an album!

I had problems too. The gallery doesn't like Netscape or Firefox browsers. Use Explorer to set up and you will not have any problem (mine was easy with Expolrer).

On your unwanted oil spout...... You should be able to find your oil pressure sending unit by the base of the distributor and on the passenger side. I probably could find a picture and email it if you and Eric don't see it. Anyway take the one that is there out and get another OEM style from the dealer or part store. You should find one wire that plugs to it once installed. The wire usually had a round rubber cap on it to keep moisture out and the connector is a blade type. The wire is probably still just hanging there since the aftermarket install. I believe the unwanted tube that likes to shoot oil on you is coming directly from the aftermarket sender unit.

Thanks for the info. We'll totally check that out. It sucks not being able to drive it! Before I couldn't drive her because she wasn't insured and now she finally is and all she does is sit there and look pretty :( (Well sort of pretty lol)

So question about the Phoenix cruise ins...are all of the cars that show up fully restored? (Basically, am I going to get made fun of if I roll up in my Mino? haha) Not that it really matters because I'm proud of her no matter what :) Hooray.

So all I did on my day off was sleep...haha I need to take some more pics and then I'll see if I can try to get my album set up soon.

If you could find that picture, it'd be very helpful, 'cause i'm sort of clueless =X

No, all the cars are not fully done.

About 5 years ago when I got started with my restoration I made real good friends with another Elky guy who used to laugh at me when I'd say "when I get this restoration done....." . Finally one day he said "I know you are a rookie with classic cars because the truth is you are NEVER done". Turns out he was right, as soon as you get one thing done you will have already thought about what you will do next and you will really never be done.

Last Friday there was one car in primer and another that had no dash, and another that had no door panels or headliner. You will see this at most cruise ins. So no matter if you are thinking of coming to a Phoenix cruise or one of the ones in Prescott don't worry so much. Go to one in Prescott in your daily driver and look at the cars, then you will be more comfortable driving yours afterwards. We all have to start someplace.....I'm 5 years into cruising and only started opening my hood recently.

Anyway.....I sent a PM where I can get your email to send the photos.

Awesome :) I'm excited now. I'm always proud to drive it, I just didn't want the people to be like 'Okay stupid girl you know nothing." haha which is basically true, but that's where this website comes into play :)

I went outside the other day when it was raining and I just sat in the car and I was sad because I haven't fixed the oil thing yet. There were leaves that blew into it before we were able to shut the back sliding window so I had to clean her up again :( my poor baby haha

OK, I'm curious Sara, did you guys find the sender unit or did you decide to just stick a cork in the tube?

Anyway hope the photos helped you find it, if you are still unsure what to do let me know and I'll try to help you out. I feel bad for you guys having to just look at her sitting in the driveway.
