:? I'm a recent 1982 Elky owner, as well as a recent member of ECC. I've been working to fix up my ride, but I'm undecideded about my dashboard. I've searched and read about dashboard covers at several sites, but I'm not convinced that is the way to go. Could someone give me some pointers and advice about repairing/replacing my dash? I'm also considering having my bumpers rechromed, but I don't know where to get it done or a fair price. thanks, and I hope to TTYL.

You could get a full face dash cap, i've heard they look pretty good if installed good. I guess they're on ebay all the time and i'm sure some of the usual elky parts suppliers carry them too.

Coollw: Check the tips & clues section and also look a General BS. There have been a number of discussions on dash problems and who seems to do a good and reasonable job for us.

And then there is a place in CA that will re-cover the dash for you in original vinyl type material. It will look factory but they do charge a bit for it and you will have to send them your dash. Its called "Just Dashes". I don't heve their web site address or even know if they have one. I've seen their work in Super Chevy and Hot Rod mags. It looks good.

here is the web site for Just Dashes http://justdashes.com/index_home.htm
For the cost of chroming the bumpers which will probably cost many $$$ you could maybe pick up a set of fibreglass ones from Lauren engineering

I emailed Just Dashes about 1 1/2 years ago about doing my dash. They said $700.00. And it was an additional cost to have to it dyed the color I wanted. Too much for me. But maybe they have come down in price.

700 is way too much for me to spend also! %$@#& I remember seeing a 5th gen dash for sale at one of the places I use for Elky parts and it was only something like 400.00, which I thought was auflly high. I did the Full face dash cover and colored it myself it looks fine to me and does cover the dash well. I used one in the 76 I have also.

A correctly installed dash cap that is dyed the right color is almost invisible to anyone who isn't actually looking for it. I"ve used them many times with great results including on my '74. As for the bumpers, I vote for rechrome. I'd much rather have the real thing. You should be able to find a rechromer in your area. Don't forget to check the local Chevy dealer. It's amazing what some of them have laying around in the back of the warehouse and the prices can be rock bottom.
