i AM PULLING OUT A 305 TO INSTALL A 350/330 HP MOTOR WITH DYNOMAX HEADERS, I AM WONDERING WILL I NEED A AIR COMPRESSOR MOUNTING BRACKET TO MAKE THIS SWAP. I AM TRYING TO GET ALL THE PARTS BEFORE STARTING THE PROJECT. THE ELKY IS A 1982 WITH THE SHORT COMPRESSOR. IF ANYONE HAVE MADE THIS SWAP I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.

You are talking about the one that bolts to the exhaust manifold.

Yes you will need the bracket. Most header manufactures offer one, or you could make one.

Hi, thanks for the information. Yes i am talking about the bracket that supports the compressor on the exhaust port. i talked to one sellsman from summit and he said not, but in looking at it you are right. i will contact dynomax and try it from there. or some header manufactor.

I've found some really nice brackets, none that will naturally accommodate the GM/Delco compressors long or short. I had the problem where the valve covers I used prevented the rear brace to be mounted on the 76 I have. Now if you are not using the tall valve covers then the Older bracketing from say a 4th generation Elky engine will almost completely work. The front bracket has to be purchased from Mr. Gasket.

I ended up fabricating one for the short compressor. The double issue is that the Power steering pump tensioner is part of the lower bracket Old and New style compressors. So either you go with an aftermarket PS Pump bracket like Zoops or March make or you fabricate.

I had a lot if alignment problems with the Pulleys. Most were March pulleys but the PS pump and the AC Compressor's pulleys take a little tweaking to get them completely aligned, they were stock GM equipment.

So finally as the weather got colder I figured out everything so next summer I should be in pretty good shape A/C wise. I think I still need one more small brace to make me feel comfortable but it is working without it.

This is just the stuff I dealt with. Your mileage may vary.

Hey, thanks for the info Elky Pete. sounds as though you've been there and done that. I orderd the engine in May and now i am hungry to see how much better my elky with run with a real motor. the 305 is ok for a 305 but now is time to run with some of the big boys. i am trying to locate the parts that you mention. THANKS
