FYI about PayPal and other online credit card payment systems versus pay by phone or in person.

The truth to the matter is that PayPal and other online clearing carts are safer for you than giving your card number over the phone or to a waiter in a restaurant. With PayPal or other terminal systems the merchant NEVER sees your credit card number, never. This reduces the chances of anyone else using your info.

If you call the number in then you are giving the number to a person who can easily keep the number to use illegally. Even worse in a restaurant or store where someone can easily make copies of your card while it is out of your possession or get hold of the receipt if it has the number printed on it. By the way, in stores or restaurants if my card number is printed in full on the merchants receipt I cross it out so it is unreadable, they don't need it on the receipt.

In my biz we take PayPal and also credit cards through an authorization service and I have never seen a customer's card number this way, not even the type or even the last four digits.
