... I'm trying to find a dual exhaust system that fits the 3 bolt 3" flange, this is for a 1979 v8 305 with brand new headers, and having that system exit out the back of the car... all I can find online are systems that exit out in front of the rear axel or in 2.25" piping... I bought my car with the side exits and I have very little ground clearance.
I took it to a shop out here in western CT, and they told me they'd have to get a 79 chevelle exhaust system and might have to modify it to fit, making it cost over 800 bucks. My answer? No freakn' way.
If there is a way I can find the complete system online without the headers that fit 3", it would be of GREAT help to me. If not I might have to go to midas and see what they can do for custom... (Really trying to avoid that option) :P

Why don't you change the flange to 3 1/2"?

Why don't you change the flange to 3 1/2"?That's an option, but why do you need to go any bigger than 2.25" if you have a 305?...If you hook a 2 1/2" fire hose to a garden hose, do you think your going to get anymore water out of the 2 1/2" firehose? Your 305 has valves and ports like a lil tiny bitty garden hose, increasing the size of your exhaust isn't going to increase the flow. However, if you want to get a better exhaust system for something you may be planning in the future, check with these guys http://www.pypesexhaust.com/ Note: when ordering an exhaust system for a 5th gen Elky, keep in mind that an Elky has a longer wheelbase than all other G bodies...ordering a system for a G-body will not fit correctly, it needs to be longer between the end of the header and before the rear axle.

Well I am a newbie to el caminos and still learning about how some of the systems work as i go, I found a system online that has 2.25 inch tubing, but would this be able to fit the OD 3" of my already new headers that happen to be 3bolt 3"? (bought it that way)
If the flange will fit perfectly, I will have no qualms about going with that system, I guess I stated my request wrong... I just want a system that'll be able to fit onto my flange, if not 2.25" would I need to simply buy an adapter?
i found it on www.carjunky.com among other sites, if u look for 1979 el camino dual exhaust kit ull find a dynomax brand one (sorry couldnt direct link)
