I have developed an intermittent power window problem in my 82 El Camino. Sometimes the driver side window will operate and sometimes it won't. :?

I have pulled the switch and all connections are intact and correct. When it stops working there is no power "click" of any kind in eithe the up or down position. I have sprayed contact cleaner into the switch. Passenger side window is working OK from Driver side dual switch.

Probably need to go into the door and check connections at the motor. Anyone have a test sequence for testing the motor or removal tips?

Thanks

Jim

I had a similar problem with mine i replaced the switch in the door and it worked fine.. Then two weeks later i got to do the same thing to the other door.. Just because i am lucky!

Does sound like the switch. The drivers door switch gets the most use and the contacts become worn.

Thanks guys - a switch replacement is probably wise, BUT I totally forgot to put my previous life experience as a computer specialist to work. I whapped the door panel just below the armrest and the window started working again. That is definitely a clue. Guess I will pull the door panel and see what is loose in there. Have a new door handle to put on anyway...

After testing the wiring, bypassing the switch, to window motor I concluded the problem was the motor and not the switch.

Rebuilt motor from local parts store cost $33.00 - with my local car club discount so not too bad. Window zips up and down with renewed vigor.
