I have got some charging issues I need to resolve. Search has been excellent and I will get the situation resolved but I have a question which will most likely illustrate my lack of knowledge - is there a fuse anywhere on the charging circuit? (Eliminate the easy first). Thanks in advance.

You need four things to get your alternator to work. You need a good ground all the way back to the battery, you need voltage flow back to the positive side of the battery and you need a 12 volt (key on) source to excite the field. Last of course you need the rotating motion of the stator.
Knowing this, you can check for a constant 12 volts at the main power (large red) wire. This is usually fused by a fusible link at the starter terminal which is simply used as a junction to the battery cable.
Then with the key on check for a 12volt supply at the smaller wires, one is your idiot light the other the supply to the field. This can be fused through an ignition source. I believe usually GM shares this with the gauge circuit.
