i have a model that i am working on of a 79 Elcamino. i would like to know what people think of this idea. i have some 96 Impala SS wheels and would like to know if i should put them on? i have another one that i already have plans for. that one is going to end up as a smooth body prostreet drag.

Is the backspacing correct? Give it a try. I thought about trying this for real on my Elky.

Go for it, that'd look sharp for a custom look on a model! 8) Wouldn't work in the real world though, Impalas have the larger bolt pattern.

well i have the wheels on the elcamino and they look 8-) . then came painting the body this is where it went bad. i was starting to run out of paint, i was painting the car and of course i ended up with runs (happen all the time with my model cars).so i will lookat it later and in the mean time hope that is dosent look like crap.

Oh the joy & frustrations of model car building. I have building models since about 12. I always paint the model first. Everything, then put it together. Did you use a primer on the body first before spraying on your choice of color? Don't forget to use several light coats and never one heavy one. Runs for sure that way!

Use what ever wheels & tires you want to. Thats the point of building models, you can have fun and try lots of different looks.

I'm about to start a new model project soon. I'm going to take a '68 El Camino as the main body and put a '70 Chevelle front end on it to make my '70 El camino with just rounding out the front bumper turn signals...I think! Also have a 1:18 scale diecast '70 SS 454, I'm going to take it fully apart and paint to match my El Camino. Just orderd the American 5 spoke torque trust wheels for it! I will have to take a pic when done.

Enjoy the hobby!

the big thing about the body is that i was starting to run out of paint. the can started to spit instead of spray. the runs were smaller and more few ths time. i never use primer on mine. i do fine with the light colors like red. it is always the darker colors and the custom colors like Boyd Coddington black-n-blue pearl (which is the color i painted the car) that i have trouble with.

I want to take my 79 Elky model and make a tow truck out of it. I saw a real 73 Elky the was like that and i always thought it would look cool

I built a Camino model to look exactly like my real thing. I even used the same hugger orange paint & keystone rims. 8-)
