I have an opportunity to buy a '70 El with no title. The car is restorable and I would like to make a nice daily driver out of it. The problem is that the car has no title. Is there a way to still get the "trar" registered and plated? Anyone go through this process before? Any pointers/warnings? Thanks in advance......

Not sure about your areas laws but, here in Michigan, you can file for an abandon vehicle title. It requiers a police officer to sign off on the application to verify it isn't stolen. Check your states goverment web site for the laws your state has on this matter. Good luck!

I to am having the same problem with my 65 Corvair. I was told to check in the classifided section of a hot rod bulider mag. That for a fee, ther are CO's that can help with this. I have not looked into this yet, due to the fact that my uncle is a retired State trooper and DMV employee that is attempting to work the problem.

Call the DMV/Auto Tag office where you want to register it. They'll be able to tell you what you have to do. Just be sure you get a good Bill of Sale and have the local policecheck to be sure that its not listed someplace as stolen. My 74 came out of Alabama where they don't use titles on vehicles that old, but I got a Florida title with the Bill of Sale from the owner.

I don't have a lot of help to offer- but one note similar to what other people have said- Don't spend ANY money on it until you have the police find out if its stolen....
If it has been reported stolen- if it was a long time ago- there is a chance that it is still ok, but they but a "hold" on it for 90 days or some period of time for the previous owners to come forward(if its been LONG since stolen, then most likely no one will come forward and you will get the car)
If the car has been reported stolen, they will impound the car- so don't spend any money on it you can avoid...
