8) Nothing wrong with that! Just use a good quality set up. It makes for a pretty nice ride from what I've seen on other vehicles.

rice79,

I am currently looking at an air ride for my 83. Having spoken to a number of people there is a perception out there that an air ride isn't going to be as smooth as the bilstein shock option. However, this is disputed by the air ride guys who say if anything its better.

Like any older vehicle the suspension is nothing like newer vehicles, but I have 2 suspension issues - 1) I want the wheels to feel like they are planted on the road, at the moment the ride is very spongy, and 2) I want to put some really low profiles on the front and drop them right into the guards, but the state of some of the roads here in New Zealand is pretty poor so I need to be able to raise the front when I am travelling down country.

An air system on the front will apparently give me 6-8 inches of travel, and the air-ride guy reckons he can drive his truck with only 15mm clearance on the road and it doesn't hit.

Like anything, a quality system will give you better results than the cheaper systems.

Hope this helps, I will post info on here when I have mine done..

I have plans to put air bags on my 76, i have a friend in town that runs a 4x4 shop and he said i could use his shop and he would help. anyway right now its all stock (i believe) my dad bought it used in `77 and ive had it since `96 anyway it already sits very low up front. man do i ramble. anyway rear is no problem i understand that to set it on the ground i have to notch the frame and cut the bed so thats out (already finished restoring bed) but my question is for the front. ive asked the air-ride guys at shows and they give me some runaround stuff because they dont sell a bag speciffically made for a 76 elky/chevelle so does anybody out there have any experience in this, ill take any advice i can get to avoid pitfalls and post-work problems. thanx alot
