: Gonna miss you folks
Bowtie 08-24-2006, 12:12 PM Finally, after ten years of planning, I am leaving next Tuesday for a month-long 13,000 mile motorcycle trip. I'll be by myself and camping and can't wait!
It occured to me as I'm wrapping-up final details, that I will miss youse guys and the daily routine of checking posts. May be a little ridiculous, but after a while, you associate personalities with profiles and begin to feel you know someone. In my case, I feel I've come to know a lot of you.
:barf: Hey, I'm not trying to get mushy here. Just trying to say I personally value this site and the fine members who make it what it is - even you Snaggletooth.
Take care.
P.S. I may have another El Camino when I get back. Most of you have seen it, so I can't tell you which one it is or someone will try to beat me on the deal. If it works out, this will be my 3rd in the last year.
highwaysignpost 08-24-2006, 01:55 PM take care, travel safely and you'll be in our thoughts. I think we all expect a ton of pictures of your adventure :)
keep it between the lines 8)
rushgator 08-24-2006, 02:42 PM Have a safe trip! To say that I am envious of you is a bit of an understatement. I hope the open road treats you well. Enjoy seeing this great country as it was meant to be seen. :)
Hey stop into an internet cafe every once and a while!
n1earnhrt 08-24-2006, 03:53 PM That is one thing that I would love to do some time. keep it safe
elka79 08-24-2006, 04:11 PM enjoy your trip, and take care....hopefully we will be here for your return......... 8)
Orfunauto 08-24-2006, 06:13 PM If you're going south on 95 give me a shout if you need any help while in central N.C. Ride safe!
Quintonsdusty 08-24-2006, 06:36 PM I used to ride a long time ago and still miss it. Every once in a while, stop into a public library and bring up the site to keep us posted. A month long 13,000 mile trip is 433.33 miles per day. To say the least, that's ambitious. Travelling by bike is sometimes compared to ocean cruising: sailing from one port to another for repairs.
Take care and God speed. :usa: :driving:
PaPa Johns 77 08-24-2006, 06:45 PM 8) Keep safe and watch the other guy cause when you are on a bike, most sure don't watch out for you! Wow! I wouldn't mind a trip like that if I had a back that could take it! Have a blast and don't forget us at ECC!
John Harris 08-24-2006, 06:56 PM Greg - You just made a lot of your friends here very jealous!
I'll bet most of us have dreamed of doing something like that, but never got around to actually doing it. Be safe. We'll be here when you get back. But why don't you stop at internet cafes or libraries along the way and tell us about your great adventure as it unfolds?? Also post your itinerary before you leave so some of us can wave to you as you pass by.
I hope you find out just how great this country is on your travels and that you have a great adventure!
El Big Joe 08-24-2006, 08:23 PM have a safe trip man.
Bowtie 08-24-2006, 08:46 PM Thanks everyone. I sincerely appreciate the kind sentiments. In response to some of your points:
* You can bet I will check the I-net whenever possible and give updates. Do they have computers in Wyoming or Mississippi? :?
* Haven't thought about the pictures, but there will be many. Maybe I'll create a web page to accomodate them when I get back.
* It's called the Four-Corners Tour and is the creation of the Southern California Motorcycling Assoc. in Santa Ana, CA. To complete the Tour is simple. All you have to do is touch the four extreme corners of the continental US within 21 days on a motorcycle. No excuses. Simple - not easy. Most do not succeed and I heard last weekend that a man was killed the first day of his attempt, but I also know of a man who died from telling his wife she burned his toast. Every day is a divine gift and I believe we have an obligation to live it, not crawl in a cave and contemplate it.
* While I enjoy the Caminos, in the vehicle world, I am first and foremost a biker. I've ridden for 36 years with over 250,000 miles underfoot. I've been a professional instructor and a licensed road-racer for 15 years and served as a consultant to the AMA. Still, better riders than I are killed every day and that keeps me humble and alert. All I can do is my best to be safe - and that I will do.
This is getting long so I'll respond more later.
Thanks again. I've never had such good friends that I don't even know what you look like! Isn't technology cool?
Take care.
Snaggle To0th 08-24-2006, 10:51 PM Wow  you mentioned my name out of the most people on here! I hope u have a damned good time riding man. Seems like quite the adventure your going on! Be safe, sounds like a lot of fun to encounter.
....
But me making the site what it is because of me? Is it because I once was toothless and not ashamed of it and other dumb things I have done? LOL jk man take care!

CHVYPWR 08-25-2006, 11:26 AM Sounds like a great time! Sure beats the 3200 miles I've ridden this year

Bowtie 08-25-2006, 03:02 PM By the way Snaggle, you aren't a valuable member of this site because of the dumb things you say you've done. But rather because you've survived them so far, lived to tell the tale, and can enlighten others with your hard-earned smarts. :)
And don't think for a minute it's because of your decorating skills with shag and diamond-plate!
Take care.

I'll let you in on a little secret Seattle isnt all its cracked up to be. The road surface is horrible, traffic is a cluster f---, downtown is good for street preformers.
Be safe and have fun, I'd take 101 up the whole west coast.
Bowtie 08-30-2006, 03:45 AM Thanks Gunnar, I may just do that. Leaving in an hour in the lovely rain. Appreciate ya'll.
Take care.
Quintonsdusty 11-07-2006, 10:21 PM Anybody heard from the Bowtie?
Bowtie 11-14-2006, 04:31 PM Back to the real world and back to the infamous Forum. Hello buds.
After a month in the saddle and over 11,000 miles, I'm ready to ride in a car again for a little while, or better yet, a cruck.
I won't waste youse guys time here blabbering except to say a trip like this was a life-changing challenge. Per request, I documented each day in a log that ended up being 43 pages single spaced and took almost 350 pictures. May even get a few copies bound as some others who have taken similar jaunts have done.
This is a wonderful country we live in folks. Good to be back.
Greg
PaPa Johns 77 11-14-2006, 06:38 PM 8) Welcome back Greg! I know you ejoyed the trip and one day you will look back and say man, I'm glad I had the chance to do that when I did! Gives you another story or stories for the Grandkids! ;)
Snaggle To0th 11-14-2006, 10:42 PM Wow congratulations Greg! Glad to hear from ya starting to wonder where u were and if u made it back alright. But seeing ur replying to this im sure u made it back jsut great! Think u got enough miles/hours on ur motorcycle now? lol
-Anduh
Bowtie 11-15-2006, 05:32 AM Thanks Snaggle. Killed a GoldWing and had to buy another scooter to complete, but nah, still haven't ridden enough. Already starting to consider next trip, Mexico or maybe Alaska.
Problem is, motorcycles have excellent heaters and air conditioners, but they just work in the wrong seasons.
Take care.
K5Cruiser 11-15-2006, 09:04 AM So did you pick up another El Camino as you had mentioned in your original post?
Bowtie 11-15-2006, 09:44 AM No, but came reeeel close. Here are some details just in case anyone wants to pursue a super Camino. Don't know if he has sold it yet.
It is shown on old eBay auction # 130011186169
The owner is Paul Dart of Lynden, WA. Super guy and retired body shop owner. The Camino is a 70 model mildly customized and one of the sweetest and most professionally done custom jobs I've seen. Mirror perfect body, shaved, flared and frenched. Essentially a new vehicle. Frankly, the only reasons I didn't buy it are because it lacked shoulder harnesses and AC.
