I have taken the evaporative canister, or whatever it is called, off my 72 350. I have dealt with the hoses and such except for the metal evaporative line from the fuel tank. I temporarily have capped it off and have been letting tank pressure off while looking for a vented cap. As best I can tell, there is no such item??? What have some of you done with this issue?

Can that gas tank vent line be run into the air filter unit??

I don't want to destroy the metal lines in case I, or someone else, might want to put it back stock in future.

Also, if I replace the fuel pump, which now has 3 connections (assume 1 of them has to do with the evaporative system too?), can I use one with just the 2 connections and abandon the third one, plug it or whatever AND would doing this solve my problem with the other line?

Sounds simple, but don't want to blow anything up!! :(

The third line on the fuel pump is a return line. Pump's using this system do not bypass pressure internally, the fuel is routed back to the tank when not needed by the carb. The pump without this fitting can be used, it has an internal bypass, the unused return line can be capped off. I don't see why you could not run the canister line to the air cleaner.

I wouldn't run the vapor line to your air cleaner. You wouldn't want suction applied to that line, and you also don't want dirt getting in there.

The vapor line should have a short rubber section connecting the hard line to the tank. I would disconnect it at that end, then cap both sections of the hard line. Then you can run a piece of hose from the tank to near the gas filler, and let that vent any pressure.

Not sure about the fuel pump connections. Usually two of those are for liquid, the other for vapor, but you already have a vapor line on the tank... any instructions come with it?

Thanks for the input so far. Guess I was right about there not being a vented gas cap that will work on a 72?

Update 8-27>>Found vented gas cap that is "supposedly" for a 72 at Year One. Will know for sure in a few days.
