What is the secret to remove a headrest from a split bench seat in an 82 Elky? There is no release that I can find that later vintage cars have. When I extend it to the highest point it hits an internal stop.

My headrest "foam" on driver side is depressed and that created unsightly wrinkles in the vinyl where the seatbelt guide is. The guide was screwed on with too much torque. Just want to get it off so I can remove the vinyl and try to fill in the depressions or replace with a good headrest.

Thanks - Jim

You need something long and thin, a hacksaw blade or a "slim jim" works well. Slide it down the front of the headrest support. When you push it down you will feel a tab about 5-6" down. Push down on the tab and pull up on the headrest.

Ernie - THANK YOU! I will find my 'slim jim' and give that a try.
