I figure that I should say hello to my fellow Carolinians. I've recently rescued an old restore/modded 82 GMC Caballero from a guy who let it go to waste. Though unreliable I hope to drive it to my High School and show the uneducated youth of my generation what it means to drive a GM product. It's great to see an organization so commited to the El Camino and their GMC counterparts after all, why by a car or a truck when you can have both?

I like your attitude young man! 8) Good luck and welcome to my favorite website. It's been a great source of information and entertainment for me. :P What part of Carolina do you hail from?

I'm from Spartanburg, I actually saw another Caballero about two weeks ago, my brother thought that I went crazy. I guess he can see a six-cylinder mustang any day of the week. Its good to know that there are at least two other Caballeros in SC. Keep it "Professional Grade"! 8)

Hansmanbo, define "faster than I need to be", what kind of performance should I get out of my 82 Caballero, 305 cid, TH350, Holley 600 CFM 4bbl, Holley Contender intake manifold, aftermarket- I presume Holley Flowtech headers, aftermarket headers- I presume Flowtech mufflers, and a 3 quarter racing cam? It could be the best sound at the High School. When we put the new carb on we were pleasantly shocked. 8O Has anyone on the website held an El Camino/Caballero/Sprint car show?
Down in Charleston there should be one in October at Dick Smith Chevrolet. I can't drive that far due to my dumping of money into getting the car running. I'd love to see a Chevy/ GMC car show or even a GMC car show. We could hold it in a big city in between Spartanburg and York such as Gaffney.

Faster than I need to be is 420 hp with a 4.10 posi. 8) Your 305 might be around 200 hp. The next car show I hope to attend is a small local one in Clover SC on Sat. Sept. 23 :P Just not enough Elkys around to have a show for ourselves. :dontknow:

Hansmansbo, you didn't sell that 79 did you? What kind of gas mileage do you get on an average day? I wouldn't mind being a little faster if I could get any money out of my Caballero and still be able to drive to college. I figure if a good owner couldn't keep his Caballero then maybe another good owner could.

No, my '79 isn't for sale. I would never get back what I have into it. As far a fuel mileage goes, on a good day I get 8 mpg until I open the secondarys. :P see my pics in 5th gen gallery page 9

Hansmanbo, what does it mean to open the secondaries?

A four barrel carb has two primary jets and two secondarys. When you just idle around, your just running on the primarys. When you mash on the throttle, the secondarys open, increasing the fuel consumption and horsepower.

Okay my Dad explained that two me I thought that the secondaries were the barrels? Anyway any advise on what size Holley Carb I should put on my car, I may have a 350? I know, I thought it was a 305, but I checked my vin and it had a 6 cyl originally. I sure would love more horsepower :-P !
