my 78 has been painted maybe a year or 2 ago and has been garaged the whole time. when we bought a second house my dad parked it in the garage and there was something hanging on the garage wall that fell and scratched it right by the gas door.

what can i use to remove these light scratches and what kind of wax to give it a good shine? its gonna need a good cleaning because it hasnt been driven or washed in damn near a year and i dont plan on bringing it out of the garage until next summer.

thanks in advance

What do you call a light scratch? How deep are they? Is it just the clearcoat that's scratched? Do you see primer? Metal? A picture would help a lot. There are many products you can use for truly light scratches all the way up to possibly sanding and compounding for deeper ones. If you see primer or metal then nothing but a repaint is in order.

As far as polish is concerned the only one I swear by is Zaino www.zainobros.com You can get a complete kit and once done your Elky will truly shine!

i can see like a kinda gray color its very small tho. the car is plum purple and if i rub it with something wet it goes away but after a while i can see it again. im not sure if its the vlear coat or the primer im seeing but im leaning twards the clear because its not deep.

i will post a pic of the scratch tomorrow

If you see gray it sounds like primer. By the way, the clearcoat is the last and top coat... it goes metal -> primer -> color base coat -> clearcoat

i know the layers of the paint. i was thinking it was the clearcoat that was scratched because if i rub it it goes away. if my dad was alive he would be pissed of it got scratched. i want to have the scratched of if possible buff it out or something. im probally gonna end up painting it because before he passed away he had told someone he wanted to paint it black with white rally stripes

Try a light compound and use that on the scratch's). If it's just the CC then it will go away and you will end it there. Probably is just the cc.

As far as waxes, I use 3M's waxes and finish coatings. Loads of body shops use the same stuff. It's not all the cheap but they are good. Also, Mother's is a high quality Wax. Essentially it will boil down to your preferences and the effort you put into it.
