I have an 82 El camino. Does anyone make blackouts for the taillights?

I sure would not want to do anything to make them harder to see. I installed a third brake light so people could see it better.

they make a lense tint spray, its kind of nice cause you can make the tint however dark or light you want, and they don't alter the light.

all it takes to remove it is some paint thinner

Who makes it and where's a good place to find it?

If you really want to do that, maybe get some smoked Plexi-Glass and cut it yourself. Use the light as a template and slighty longer screws and screw the assembly back in place. The light is reccesed in the bumper enough that the added thickness of Plexi should not be a problem.

Ahh but you see I have the aftermarket roll pan -no bumper. So the lights aren't recessed any longer.

Boys, boys, boys. Don't do it! It is not DOT compliant. It is against the law and if someone hits you in the rear it will be your fault.

I know they sell blackouts and tints for lights and they do not tell you that they are legal, they say for "Show Purposes Only" and that in so many words means that it is not legal on the street. Believe me, I am a certified officer in the State of Tennessee, I know.

Headlight covers are illegal from one half hour before sunset until one half hour after sun up, turn signal covers are a no no period and so are the tail light lens/covers. Also no red lights in the front 50% of the car, no white lights on the rear 50% other than the license plate light, back-up lights may only be on while in reverse.

I have a window tint chart to gage the legal limit of tint and the ASI line on the windshield is not to be tinted or covered below it.

It is also, in the State of Tennessee, illegal to put any type of cover over a license plate on the rear weather it is clear or not.

This was just to make you aware of the situation, as I would truely hate to see anyone injured or any of you placed in a position of fault because of any of these actions. Jim

I was told once by an Inspector that Texas Law doesn't allow some covers over lights. This year they passed a law stating that if you have a frame around the plate and it obscures any portion of the words or lettering of the plate or its reflectivity then you get a citation of $200.00. I know people this has happened to already. "I didn't know that" didn't work for them.

Before you add on stuff like that I would check it out go to an inspection station and ask. These are car guys and like cars at least enough to work on them they should give you a straight answer.

its VHT Niteshades.. I've used it on my vette with GREAT results! HIGHLY recommended...but apply in thin coats to CLEAN lens to prevent runs!!! You can order it from MidAmerica Designs catalog and website also ( click for link (http://www.madvette.com) )
