Hello from Estonia!

After some very long months I finally located a suitable El Camino for me and got it from Finland. It is the FIRST driving El Camino in Estonia and I am a proud owner..

Welcome to ECC/necoa Kristjan!

Nice looking 4th generation El Camino. Wow, your the only person in Estonia that owns an El Camino. Did you get any of the history of your El Camino, like how it got to Finland?

Good looking truck. Welcome to the place to be if you are an El Camino Owner. :D

What does it have under the hood?

Hey! Nice to see such a warm welcome! My truck has a slightly modded 350 under the hood headers + performance ignition.
Actually I did some research but couldn't get any information how did my car get to Finland.
In Estonia there are 4 El Caminos total, but only mine is moving. I hope that next spring another 4-th gen Elcy is rolling out of a garage that is being repaired (for several years).
What I wanna do with my car? At first of all I'd like to get it run stable and economic if I don't floor the pedal. That old Quadrajet works very poor and I think I have to change carb.

If it is economical then a refresh of the engine is always a good place to start and give you a last known good state to begin the reconstruction process. Fuel economy is tricky. Big power and gas mileage are not synonymous with one another.

So some things can add an advantage. You can install an overdrive 200R4 or a 700R4 and change the gears in the 3rd member. Keep the compression down to about 9.5:1 so you'll have little problem finding petrol that you can afford to put into it. I know that gas prices there are outrageous.

The Quadra Jet carburetor is about the most economic carburetor you'll be able to stick on it and when rebuilt and running properly they are a good performing carb.

More economy can be achieved with an increase in power by removing the Pulley style Water Pump and Fan and replacing them with an electric fan and water pump. This trick can free up as much as 15 to 20 horses that are there now. Adding headers will give you a little increase in horse power and possibly some economy but not a lot.

Rolling resistance. Good tires will help. I'd run a good higher pressure in the front tires and a little less in the back. Low tires will give bad economy always. Things like new shocks, ball joints and that stuff will also add a little bit but again not a lot. If it has a old worn out suspension then it takes more from your power plant to maneuver the vehicle.

Some of these add only a little economy but all together they add a fair amount that "helps" please the pocket book at the Gas Station some.

GM's Crate 383 short block is probably the best place to start working on lots of Horse power and torque. Then build it the way you like it. The good part of the HT383 that GMPP sells is that it has a newer style block that accommodates Roller Lifters "naturally", 4 bolt mains, 5.8" Rods with Rod caps that don't require massaging or shaving to have them clear the CAM and are plenty stout to carry the engine even with a 250 HP shot of NOS.

Good Luck on the project.

Hey Jez, I arrived here early this year after buying my own '75 El Camino here in Australia. You are one of the old boys I see.

You certainly punished that Elky. Entertaining video though.

Good luck getting mobile again.

Thanks for the replies!
Actually there are right now about 8 4th gen Elcy's in Estonia. We could call that an invasion!. Some of them are already fully restored, some are waiting..
Mine is going to frame off resto very soon.
Hope it doesn't take more than some years..

BTW, the music is made by young group here in Estonia, the members are about 15 years old..
