Driver side PW was working then quit. My neighbor that has a 76 Monte Carlo came over and said he was taught a little trick. He turned the ignition on so windows would work, then proceeded to slap the door panel while holding down the PW switch. Low and behold the window took off working? He said it's a common fix for older chevy PW's? He said it's probably a bad ground? Any comments.

It happened again and I tried his fix and failed. He came over and did his magic again and bingo, it's working again. Evidently he knows where to hit and how hard? :(

Your neighbor must be an old computer tech, like I was. When all else fails just whap it hard up the side of the cpu!

Just a couple days ago I reported the same problem with my 82 PW. After posting I remembered to try the whap - and it worked for me too!

But, it's time to pull the door panel and check what is loose or corroded.

I have had some older GM's that would do that and I found that the wires would break inside the boot from the door to the jam. Sometimes they will break internally and will not show on the insulation. use a continiuty tester from the switch to under the dash.

Or slap the door alot

Had the same problem with mine. Replaced the switch no problems since. I hate to hit things unless i can get a free swing at my EX!

i had the same problems with mine and what i foud was that the wires had broke off right behind the switch, i put some new connector on the wires and reconnected them and havent had a problem since.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I guess pulling the door panel is unavoidable unless I want to keep slapping the door as if it's a stubborn puter or X.

Another common problem is corrosion on the pin connectors to the switch. sometimes it works to just unplug and plug in the connector a few times. If the connection is dry, put a dab of grease on before plugging in at final assembly and it will keep moisture out of the connection.
