Hi all,

Got a question.... I have a 1970 Elky SS 396 and have a question about the tailgate emblem on it. My elky has individual letters of the S on the tailgate with the 396 individually under it. I have seen repros of the tailgate emblem for 1970 elkys as a complete solid emblem, not individual letters or numbers. Are the letters originally supposed to be individual or one complete emblem? Any help would be appreciated as I have a chance to get a NOS tailgate letter "S" emblem for a spare.

Thanks all,

Brian

I took a closer look at my tailgate emblem today. Since the tailgate is tuxedo black, it was hard to tell if the SS part was attached to the 396 part of the emblem. The tailgate SS part is actually attached to the 396 part by two tabs that come down from the bottom of the S on each SS. This car is all original with the exception of a warranty block. Where the two tabs that come down to attach the 396 part are, it was hard to tell there were there since they are painted to match the color of the car or at least it is in my case since the paint is tuxedo black. In my case, the individual "S" would not work.
